Should I install to HDD?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 8:37 am

Has this texture glitch with XBOX been confirmed? If so, does anyone who has played it on 360 know if it is fixed with the patch you installed?

Basically, anyone on 360 that has it already installed to HDD and noticed texture wash out?

No, not yet anyway. Wait a few days and see if they fix it, then install it.

This "issue" is being reported by people who have somehow managed to play the game early so I would question whether their copies are actually legitimate. Correct me if I'm wrong but the official release date for Skyrim is 11/11/11. I am looking at my calendar now and it clearly states 10/11/11. I will refuse to believe that this issue actually exists until I obtain my official copy of the game and see for myself!

"Official" copies have been reported to have the same issues. I don't even think the early pirated ones were "Unofficial", they were just leaked copies of the complete game. I'm partly with you, though, It doesn't seem to be universal at the moment.

Official copies will not be released until the official release day which, last time I checked, WAS NOT Monday 7th November, Tuesday 8th November, Wednesday 9th November or Thursday 10th November so until I play the official release of the game I will not believe any reports of "issues" from people playing leaked copies!

Pete Hines said it's not an install issue. I trust him. I will be installing to lower my load times.

Oh calm down. It really is not that big of a deal. It's most likely just a problem ALL the xbox games will be having until a new patch is released.

Are you being intentionally dense?

First off - Time zones: It's already 11/11/11 in some places
Second - Several stores (Most in Northern Europe) ignored the Release Date, and started selling the games as soon as the shipments arrived (which was sometime last week)
Third - Mailed Pre-orders. Some people get their game a day or two early because the mail is unexpectedly fast. No pre-order or Shipping company wants to run the risk of pre-ordered games arriving late, so they err on the side of early.

This is why I can confirm if it's true ^

yes the bug in the game when installing to the HDD is legit. Hopefully it'll be fixed in the next patch.

Does the problem go away if the game is installed on a USB Drive / Memory Unit rather than the HDD?

Does the game load and work fine when played off of a flash drive? I've never tried that before.

@MalfisqewSlorth I. Don't. Know. Maybe legit, maybe not. We haven't seen it. We'll see what folks say when legit copies are out in release.

As long as the flash drive is big enough, yes. You just have to plug it into your xbox, go to the memory options and select the flash drive. You'll have to format it so the 360 can use it so make sure you don't have anything important on it.

Games in general work, and Halo 3 worked faster off USB than either HDD or DVD. I'm getting Skyrim tomorrow so if we don't have a definitive answer I'll do some testing.

I have an 8gig flash drive I keep my xboxlive profile on so I can easily play on other peoples xboxs under my account. It has some save files on it, but still has 6.5 gigs of space left.

You're saying if I install to the flash drive... the game still runs fine?

Edit: Saw what Puck said as well. I'll probably install on my flash drive then.

No reason it shouldn't, I dunno about load times vs. the 360s HDD, but what really matters is that it is reported to solve the texture loading issue.

Sweet, thanks.

Anyone have an estimate on how long it takes skyrim to install to a flashdrive or the hdd?
