Should Lucasarts consider contracting Bethesda to make a gam

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 12:36 am

This is just speculation, but word around the campfire is that Lucasarts wants to make a Star Wars based single player RPG in an open world type setting similar to Elder Scrolls series. My question is would this be something you guys would want to play? And if so, would you rather Lucasarts divert most of the work to Bethesda?

Star Wars meets Elder Scrolls?

Of course I would rather Bethesda be in charge of such a project as much as possible... but I think LucasArts might bring something to the table if they cooperate with Bethesda. This is highly unlikely to happen though.

I think there is a very real possibility that we will see an Elder Scrolls version of Star Wars in the near future. I just hope its Bethesda that does most of the work and not Lucasarts.

Isn't this pretty much Bioware's job? Don't think Bethesda needs to step in.

Wait what? LucasArts wont contract to Beth to make a game. They already have a contract with Bioware for TOR, and any single player game would also go to them since they have the Mass Effect franchise with its own SP role play action game.

It sounds interesting, but they'd really have to up their combat animations a lot for the jedi. If they do it they should do it right; I don't want fighting as a jedi to feel like TES combat with an energy sword.

Bioware fails at creating the open, seamless worlds that Bethesda is able to produce. Bioware doesn't make first person type games.

Lucasarts holds all the cards, they can contract anyone they want. Bioware is under contract for the current MMO they have but that doesn't mean that Bioware controls the future development of the company.

$650 million dollars and counting.... Is 1 billion entirely out of the question yet? Considering, I would turn Lucas down in Bethesda's shoes as they are notorious for demanding too much control and profit margin. Give it to Obsidian as they need a bone.

Correct they are experts at creating story driven games that fake the feeling of openness. Which is why they are a perfect fit for Lucasarts/Star Wars Universe.

Lucas Arts hates customizable protagonists

or guarantee within two weeks announce a novelization with canonized lucas approved protagonist plus canon order of events.

Would you consider Bioware to be on the same level as Bethesda? I wouldn't. But then again, this comes down to personal taste.

NO!

I want Fallout 4 and the next Elder Scrolls game, not Bethesda's Wookie-World, or whatever Star Wars crap they would have to do.

...I hate Star Wars.

Like TES doesn't have a canon order of events? At least in KOTOR they actually let you choose even if they said the Light side ending was canon. I would love if Beth let us do that in TES. I was so pissed when the sleepers told me to go to Red Mountain and join Dagoth Ur and then I did that but you couldn't......

You make a good point here. But Lucas already has his MMO with the one thats due out this christmas. Lucas could increase the contribution margin of his product mix by adding a game like the Elder Scrolls to his mix of products. He just needs Bethesda to make it happen, its only a matter of time.

I just hope all the races I want to play will be included, along with the backdrop and lore. I honestly don't care if they have Jedi or not, though im sure they will since its a money maker.

Yes they should consider it... and then beat themselves senseless with a large stick by way of negative reinforcement. I just can't see it working out, and Bethesda doesn't need them.

I cannot say KOTOR made me a fan of RPG's, but it was the first turn based RPG i really enjoyed. I waited so long to hear an announcment on kotor 3 after i beat the 1st and 2nd about 100 times each and they went and made it p2p which is just terrible. Yes if they ever made a kotor 3 and it was like FPS action like TES games i would LOVE that. As to whether beth would make it... i seriously doubt it because something that is that awesome could not exist because lifes not fair

Bethesda and Lucas stand to make a great deal of money if they can produce a game that resembles the ES series in a Star Wars setting. There is no question, lots of money on the table to be had and neither company is going to turn this down.

Sorry if this is offensive to the one-eyed hardcoe Bethesda junkies on here but Bioware would OWN Bethesda at making a Star Wars themed RPG on combat mechanics alone.
A modified version of Dragon Age 2's mechanic for lightsaber combat with Mass Effect's mechanic for blasters, combined with Bioware's frankly far superior storytelling ability and on-par graphics would make for one hell of a game.

Bethesda would just make it Skyrim with lightsabers. Which would svck, majorly, and do absolutely no justice to the Star Wars universe.
Maybe a collaboration? Contract Bethesda to create the open world, Bioware for everything else?
I like Star Wars, can you tell? :P

Now are we talking video game light sabers? ( kotor not jedi knight series )
or the movie light sabers.. because theres a big difference for 1 hit kills and multiple hit kills

plus sense u had to mention mass effect would the force work like the powers in that game? or magic like in tes?

lets make this game, just you and I..

Dude, you know this is all twaddle you made up. Its never going to happen.

Lucasarts already released sandbox style single player RPG games years ago. Knights of the Old Republic (KoToR) and its sequal were out a number of years ago. The whole reason they went MMO is BECAUSE they made those games previously and the sales were decent, but nowhere near the likes of WoW sales and revenue which is what Lucasarts is all about. Milking money out of the so called "fanbase", is all Lucasarts and big G cares about. And single player games are not as profitable as MMO's and dont offer the same gauranteed revenue streams each month.

In short; Not gonna happen, been there done that, got the t-shirt.
