Should I be a Nord?

Post » Fri Sep 28, 2012 1:29 pm

Ive started a game and im an imperial. However i dont feel this is right because all the lore ive read said that a dragonborn is a nord. I feel like i should start over and be a Nord. Is there information that can change this??

My main character and Dragonborn is Imperial. I've made countless of Nords but I keep coming back to this one. It feels odd at times but playing a Nord was weirder as you were a stranger in your own country. As Imperial I can justify all the stupid questions my character is forced to ask.

There have been many non-Nord dragonborns through the ages so I think it's perfectly fine to play as one.

Thu'um is a Nordic tradition, that's true, but dragon soul is a gift from Akatosh and can be bestowed upon anyone. Even Tiber Septim wasn't necessarily a Nord, some sources say he might have been a Breton. The rest of the Septims (or at least the more recent ones) were Imperials, so if they all really were Dragonborn...
I'm pretty sure Alessia wasn't a Nord either.

Gods are fickle. It wouldn't surprise me if they made an Altmer the hero of Skyrim, just for [censored] and giggles.

I know they are trying to here, unfortunately my altmer has a tendency to stab, or rob blind anyone who mildly annoys her.

If you want? It doesn't really matter. It probably does feel the most "right" playing as a Nord Dragonborn, but it's not a requirement. Future TES games that reference the Dragonborn, if at all, will almost certainly not mention race, so it's up to your imagination.

What Rosveen said, Dragon born could be a Senche-tiger if Akatosh wanted it to be so.
its no weirder being a Khajiit Dragon born than a Nord, so it really just depends on what you want to be :)

Be what you want to be, Skyrim is a game which i feel people can choose a character on what they would like to be or what suites them best. Im a wood elf, i love archery and the wood elf best suites me. Skyrim is a game in which you can express yourself; do what you want! Don't just be a nord because the dragonborn is famously a nord, it wont be an enjoyable gaming experience.
Hope this helped, jeazz :)

St. Alessia was supposedly a Dragonborn, and we know that Reman Cyrodiil was one. Both of these were Imperials. Martin and Uriel Septim were also Dragonborn, both being Imperials. If we look at the known(as in we can verify the race) Dragonborns most of them are Imperials.

An Imperial Dragon-born works fine for me. My favorite character is also an Imperial, Dragonborn, Blade, and Legate and more, while my one Nord is a simple alchemist who just goes from town to town making potions (and obscene amounts of money). Remember that one of the greatest Septim rulers (and therefore Dragonborns) was Empress Katariah, a Dunmer.

Be whatever the [censored] you want.
What? You afraid some other game down the line will render your fictional character invalid?
The game and lore doesn't dictate what character you play, bro. You do.
