Should I purchase the PS3 version of Crysis 2 ?

Post » Fri Aug 06, 2010 7:45 pm

ok so heres the deal, I purchased the PC version of Crysis 2. Sadly to say i am deeply disappointed by the technical problems of the game. When there are no technical issues the game from a MP standpoint is alot of fun. So I was researching and looks to me that the 360 and PS3 versions have much less technical issues. Im not concerned about graphics I already know what it looks like on a high end PC and it really isn't all that great. So you anyone recommend the PS3 version asside from obvious framerate drop which I ve only seen 3-5 frames no big deal, but is there something else I may not know about the PS3 version?

like is the game playable? the PC version most of the time is not due to technical issues in MP
is there a big community to play with? The PC community is dying rapidly
how long does it take to enter MP? PC version can take up too 5 minutes long
is there flickering in the PS3 version of textures? I get flickering on PC cause of SLI technology

this is only for the MP part of the game. when there are no issues in MP i have a blast and I just want to play MP with minimal problems.

Thanks for your help.

I'd say wait for the next patch and see what that does. The PS3 version of the MP has a fair amount of issues too. There seem to be enough people playing, but I've had to wait several minutes for a match too, and the matchmaking will toss you in with people from the other end of the world, which means the match becomes a lag-fest and whoever the host is just destroys everyone else. Plus there are bugs like the sound cutting out, guns not firing and other stuff. It's hard to say if it's better than the PC version because I've never played the game on PC, but the PS3 version is definitely far from perfect. Like I said - wait for the patch.

It all boils down to which controller you prefer. Visually, they are identical.

I chose the PS3 version because I pwn FPS games with the PS3 controller. The xbox anologsticks deadzone just screws me up.

rent and borrow a copy and see how it goes for u, as its hit and miss completely with online mp for ppl, some its great, others it svcks balls.
its just bad netcode plain and simple, so until they fix it, no guarantees. so id rent or borrow a friends copy and see if it workd for u first.

The ps3 version is fine if u don't mind 1-2 second lag due to random assignment of hosts, don't squad up or don't care when ur squad members freeze or DC. Other than that and the orbital strike on skyline killing your framerate for a minute the ps3 version is fun and playable.

here's my input on your PS3 question, copied from a post i made on the Crysis FB page:

so utterly tired of crashing/freezing of Crysis 2 on my PS3. the web is filled with complaints & others asking about this problem with seemingly no response from devs/publishers/sony, etc... do you guys even give a crap about your fans/consumers/purchasers? NO OTHER GAME CRASHES MY PS3! and this is one of the most looked forward to games in ages! WTF?! i've been tweeting via twitter about it & of course am ignored. how about responding to folks that reach out to you? or do you not give a crap once games have been sold/rented/etc. prove me wrong please. show me that someone gives a crap over @ this company! #EPICFAIL

lol yeah, ppl seem to have different experiences with this game to say the least.

Ive had 2-3 freezes during game, and this has happened in other games including black ops and uc2, its a regular issue with new games, and it happens on 360 too, as i was just on eurogamer forum, and 360 owner asking if anyone knew a workaround, his is worse as it happens in same place again and again.

anyway, im bored of these issues, im going to buy portal 2 instead and trade this in

decided to hold off on portal and keep crysis and hope (in vain probably) these issues sort themselves out. going to get orange box and try portal out first , and see if i even liker it, before trading this game in.

My game has never froze and the multiplayer works great with the few hiccups here and there.
To tell the truth havent had many issues at all.
As to whether you should get this game, I sold mw2 and black ops for this and I have never looked back.
Cant stand COD, only game left now is Brink and BF3

Thank you guys for the input I really appreciate your honesty. As you can see I would be giving Crytek a total of 120$ minus tax because I already own Crysis 2 on PC. I was wondering if that was a wise decision to support these guys again on the PS3. I feel that after listening to you guys the best decision is to wait and not purchase it. Maybe in the next month or so it will be beneficial to purchase but I just dont want to go through the same problems I experienced with the PC. Thanks again for your input.
