Should spell scrolls be in?

Post » Sat May 11, 2013 12:49 pm

Obviously the only real value these would have is for class/race skills and abilities, given that any others are obtainable, and they should be quite hard to craft so that people aren't just spamming them for magicka-free spellage in PvP. Good idea, or freedom gone too far?

I'd say make em resource free, moderate power wise, and put a cooldown on them. Maybe 5 to 10 minutes?

I dont like the idea of scrolls for traditional spells (i.e. destruction spells and the like). However, as a way of obtaining normally locked spells, it might be interesting.

For example, a teleportation scroll that could return you to a major city, or a circle of protection scroll that would heal and protect friendly players in a small area, or a scroll that conjures up a temporary summoned creature - a daedra or atronach perhaps. The scrolls should have spells that are unavailable to players normally - meaning not available through any weapon type or class tree.

One-use spell scrolls that take up a resource slot. Yes. Do not give them a cool-down, make them consumables and make them hard to craft. Enchanters should craft them.

i like the cool-down idea.

i also like the crafting idea. (as long as they have a cooldown.)

in my eyes they would be pretty powerful. so a cd would be neccessary to prevent spamming.

Consumables have cool downs, so it would be natural for the scrolls to follow that line.

And they would be immediately balanced, since you'd have to give up your usage of potions for the sake of spell scrolls.

Icarian flight, anyone?

Lore wise, I honestly do not care. Mechanically they can be an absolute pain to balance, just as all consumables.

funny...
so many people say 'yes' to the theoretic idea of having spell scrolls in a game
but when it comes to actually having scrolls in game the same number of people complain about the farming/grinding effort in order to craft/buy them.

i think allow. if a competitive pvp is ever revealed then disable their use in such, but in massive battles it sounds OK to me, actually it sounds like a great gold sink

yes and if they are buff scrolls then they can override other spells so u won't have 100 buffs from scrolls

Ooo yes please. I love spell scrolls. But they should be relatively rare and hard to get. I also could see enchanters being able to make them. And perhaps alchemists creating the inks used to write them. Rolls of paper could be found throughout Tamriel.

What would work is this, scrolls should have a 2-10 min cd (sets all scrolls on cd, buff scrolls maybe 5 sec cd.

should be scrolls with buffs that gets lost upon Death, should be able to make them in enchanting proffesion tree.

There should not be any 1 win if i got scrolls, scrolls.

There shouldnt be big fat aoe fireballs and stuff.

Also they should cost magicka or stamina or both to use them, to balance it out a bit.

Otherwise they will become Another spell on your hotbar. that everyone will run with and if you dont have them for pve and pvp you will lose offensive/defensive output in the Group/raid by a large amount.

thats why they should cost magicka/stam becuse then it would be like this, if i dont got an aoe in my arsenal but i got an Arrow volley, the fireball COSTs same and deals same damage as the volley.

and both COSTs the same but maybe it has an effect your disposal dont have like a dot or a slow effect, becuse you chose your "skillbuild" for pve maybe that means damage only, and pvp cc is better slow/immobolize.

like that scrolls shouldnt be a "must to have" to do stuff otherwise everyone in meta will run with it, it should be a soluttion and choice in other circumstances, when your item/class build and talent dont fit the situation well for you.

and buffs for raids maybe if not potions will do that

it wont be a gold sink later on when ppl discovered how to get Money and got Everything. new ppl wont stand a chance, if it aint balanced as i said above.

they might even have to remove scrolls later on if this aint balanced as i said above.

Interesting, I thought there were two resource slots, or is that other slot for something else entirely? (The one you use with R)

Yeah a cooldown could be okay, as long as the scroll disappears, scrolls like potions makes sense.

That's right, my bad, totally forgot about the ultimate! In that case yes, having to choose between pots and scrolls is a good idea.

Allow em to contain one of the any spell that crafter has (not somethink unique like werewolf or vampire skills, or dark brotherhood etc).

It would be fun to see at the end of the 16 level dungeon with friend bring an 50 level spell for the boss.

As someone who does not like magic and its uses i voted...yes!

Would be fun to throw someone else off a bit by using a consumable scroll hehe! :P
