If I open the vault door to meet Elijah, he runs off and becomes hostile. The turrets then attack me. ( I have not be able to find a stealth pack anywhere, only stim packs.)
If I wait for him to open the door he turns hostile before opening. I hacked the security terminal but the turrets remained active.
I read that destroying the generator causes Elijah to become hostile. I have tried leaving the generator in tact, but he still turns hostile.
As soon as he becomes hostile the forcefields become active, blocking the passage to freedom.
It seems that "Dead Money" cannot be completed without using a stealth pack.
Can anyone suggest an alternative method of getting rid of Elijah and escaping, preferably with a few gold bars in my inventory.

It can be done, but your timing has to be perfect and your sneak skill should be hi, if not 100. Take out the turrets BEFORE you enter the vault. Gather all the bars and talk to him. Walk, not sneak, to the generator thing, at the foot of the steps. Crouch down and wait for him to pass by, slowly moving around the thing, keeping it between you and him. As soon as he looks down at the terminal, to enter the vault. Stand up and start walking up the steps and through the door. If you time it right, the field will go up right behind you. Continue to the elevator. You are home free, with all the bars.

It may take several tries, but it is possible. He will enter the vault and bet trapped for ever. Good luck.

sounds like the encounter is working as intended. let me spell out your options if you don't see them

1. stay and fight
2. run and leave him to his fate

if you stay he will become hostile, hes bat[censored] crazy, what were you expecting a civil discussion? so that means you kill the turrets, then you kill him, then you make like snagglepuss and exit stage right.

if you immediately run the OPPOSITE direction, meaning your 100% backtracking your way through all those speakers and holograms you were playing with for the previous 20 minutes, elijah will end up sealing himself inside the vault. and your path is not blocked by force fields.
