Silent Running and Armor Type

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 6:30 pm

Hi All,

Playing a stealthy sneak build and already have this skill. I've read around a bit that beyond removing the penalty for running it also removes the penalty for equipped weight meaning you can wear the medium and heavier armors and with no sneak penalty.

Can anyone verify if that is correct or wrong?

Thanks much

If your sneak is really high it won't matter what armor your wearing, and considering you can quick slot armor.....

There are several factors of sneaking.

Line of sight
Light levels
Still/Running/Walking
Shooting your weapon
Apparel weight
Weapon holstered/drawn
Contact
Enemy Perception.

Silent Running makes it so running has the same penalty as walking. I highly doubt it removes apparel weight from the sneaking factors.

The game says that Silent Running makes it so that running does not make you more likely to be detected than walking. Without it, if you run while sneaking, enemies are more likely to notice you than if you're walking, unless the perk description also mentions removing the penalty for the weight of your equipment, I'd say that no, it does not have any impact. You'll either have to live with a somewhat lower chance of sneaking successfully, or wear lighter armor when sneaking.

Thanks all,

I remember in Fallout3 this discussion came up, and theres different info in these forums referencing that it negates equipment weight, but no one seems to know for sure.

For the time being, I think I'll play it safe and go light.

Well I do know that if you have 100 (or close to it) the negative effect of wearing even heavy armor is pretty negligible.
