Silly problem

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 7:34 pm

I have installed and begun a new game. Everything seems to work brilliantly until I complete character creation and then I can not advance. It says press x but that does not work and neither does any key. The game is not frozen or anything. Furthermore, on the cart ride in to town it says RS in a circle to look around. My mouse did not look around so something is wrong. I am so close to enjoying this but need help please. Also, could not find anyway prior to character creation to change controls or even see what was what except in manual. Thanks in advance.

Hi Gorath the Elder, My machine meets the requirements to play the game and I seem to have a silly problem that no one else has. I think I am just overlooking the obvious. I do not fully understand the game controls as the mouse does not function quite the same. Everything is fine except i just can not finish my character creation......or am I being silly and you need to see all this info and it is more than just a simple button pushing problem.

There was only one thing that jumped right off that DxDiag page, and it's this:

"Page File: 1083MB used", which is well over DOUBLE what a game player should allow to load at boot-up in Windows XP. It almost certainly means you have a background program that is recording keystrokes or otherwise interfering with the game. You need to get rid of all that bloat; start with a Clean Boot diagnosis procedure (multiple pages' worth of guidance on Microsoft's web site).

Let me explain more deeply. The game fires and moves well, but from the beginning the control buttons seem wrong. To continue game the button I must press is enter. Then it asks if you wish to continue this game with a as yes and b as no. Neither of those work so I press enter and it continues. After the three prisoners are called by name and one is killed it sends me to character creation screen and using arrows and numpad I can create a character. Then it says x to be done. X does nothing. There must be a way I can see what my controls are because in the book it says this is a wads game but I am in numpad and arrows. my problem seems different from the others and maybe it is something silly like controls are set wrong or something. What do you think, excellent helper gorath?
