Silver Hand, raised from the dead?

Post » Tue Aug 28, 2012 11:23 am

This isn't a bug, but I came across a creepy, yet amusing situation.

After I did the requisite murder of Grelod the child-abuser and visited the Aretino boy in Windhelm, during the Companions questline, I received the Dark Brotherhood's "We Know" handprint note. During the battle of Gallows Rock, I deposited that note into one of the Silver Hand's bodies.

Some time after completing the Companion questline (along with the DB) I received a radiant quest to retrieve an amulet from Gallows Rock. While I was doing so, after the exterior area battle, I looted the bodies (gotta love the resale value of those silver swords), I came across...

You guessed it, the handprint note. o.O

Strange, to say the least, and just a little creepy. Some force must be at work to resurrect the Silver Hand, especially since I wiped them all out! (And yes, this was way past the 30-day respawn time. More like 3 months!)

Makes me wonder if stuff you put into dead bodies truly vanishes from the game.

And... just took out Krev the Skinner... for the 2nd time!

O.O

Okay, where's the Necromancer hanging around the Silver Hand?

Edit: No Skjor, tho'.

I kinda take offense at being called a liar, because I have no reason whatsoever to misrepresent what happened in my game.

In my opinion, just because you haven't run into something like that before doesn't mean it's not true. So, instead of calling someone a liar, try testing it out yourself. I don't know why it happened in my game, it could simply be a script-cleanup bug, or something no-one's run across before.

If anyone who has completed the Companion's questline is willing to go back to Gallow's Rock and see if the SH are still present, along with Krev the Skinner, we'd be able to see what's going on.

The guys at Gallows Rock merely reloaded their last save.

UESP Wiki shows a respawn of 10 or 30 days, so... *shrug* Guess the whole cell just resets, as expected.

Still strange that the note did not disappear.

That sounds like a fun idea for roleplaying purposes, ha. Go for it, it would probably be popular with the DB set. Pity the 360 can't use mods. *grumble*

Maybe he had done something for the DB himself. He might have also joined if you never killed him.

The cell is supposed to reset, but quest-specific dungeons most certainly aren't supposed to spawn the same quest-related enemies there, like the skinner boss.

That said, it's definitely a bug. Saying it's not is to say it's supposed to happen, which it definitely isn't.

I've had it glitch where I had Skjor waltz back into Jorvaskrr. I went to Gallows Rock killed the Skinner again and looked, Skjor's dead body was still there.

A lot of strange glitches are around...

The Silver Hand aren't vampires. They have vampire dust because one of its effects is cure disease like the Hawk Feathers.

That is a good idea for a mod! Leaving a calling card on your victims body!

I'd need to see a pic of that. None of the Silver Hand that I've come across slept in one of the coffins.

I leave instruments when a mysterious massacre happens to a group of Thalmor. Anti Thalmor Bard Assassins (if I could forge them I'd make tons of Amulets of Talos and leave them there with the flute or lute).

I think one of the patches reset the Companions questline if you had already done it on your save. I haven't tried the note thing but I have had Skjor reappear and I went back to Gallows Rock and rekilled the Skinner later on.

By the way, if Skjor reappeared for you, do not accept quests from him!

I'm trying to think of something rare in the wild, something that doesn't appear apart from a few venues. The only thing I can think of that I've never seen on a body outside of a crypt are...

Embalming tools.

Or you can collect jewels of a particular type (sapphires, rubies, etc), and leave one on a body. Or mammoth cheese, which is difficult to acquire on lower levels without getting launched into orbit without a spacesuit.

Can't really think of anything else. Be nice if you could get a piece of a frostbite spider, like a fang, and leave it on the bodies.
