wait there is a heal over time effect for potions already? I mean I know there is a heal over time effect because restoration spells obviously use it...but is it possible to make potions that do 10 second heal-over-time right now?

Yes.

The effect is called "Lingering Restore Health".

Edit: I suggested earlier that the easiest way to make a mod to remove player made instant-heal potions would be to replace all "restore health" effects with either "lingering restore health" or the health regen effect... this may be easier than editing whatever scripted process is involved in making the potions. And the buyable potions would be easy enough to edit. If I had the CK I could make a mod that removed all instant heal potions in this manner in about 10 minutes.

I really like HoT potions, so don't get me wrong...but in oblivion, i actually found that HoT potions made the game significantly easier, for me. For example, i never would wait till the last sliver of HP to use a potion, meaning i never got killed because my reflexes were too slow to save myself. And Since HoT potions tend to give a bit more health, if you just use the same number as you would have used, you end up being nearly invincible for the 5-10 seconds that they last :tongue:

Of course, it results in more potions used, but i kinda like chasing butterflies anyhow.

Imho, even instant heal potions wouldnt be so bad if there was an animation for it. I really hate that mid fight, the player somehow absorbed 10 health potions thru the bottle, thru his skin and is in top performance condition in an instant again. As it is now, I never use potions until I can somehow get away from combat for a few seconds, and play a drinking animation in my head. :D

I've noticed that there seems to be a fair split in both the amount and rarity of health "regeneration" potions. Personally, I'd like to see a mod that, instead of converting ALL the options to regenerations, swaps them around - making the over-time potions common, and the instant-heal ones very, very rare and powerful.

Well, moding regular pots to go HoT should be pretty easy once the toolset is released. To make it a completely HoT game, you'd have to go into the effects of the insta pots and change them to match all the HoT Pot's effects, doing it that way would replace all instances of inta pots laying around the world as well.
