If so, what tips do you have for a messy bugger like myself who picks up probably a little too much?

I use Vlindrel Hall, as it has enough furniture to categorize my stash just fine. I can even put things near where I use them. Note, if you are on the PC, there is a mod called Crates and Barrels that makes them usable in the game to get even more storage.

However, yes, I have to categorize or I can't find anything. Which reminds me, I need to go back to my other houses and move stuff.
