I do not work for Bethesda, neither do i work in any gaming related industry. Just my honest opinion as a fan.
Its quite a long read and i apologize in advance.
I have waited 5 long years for the release since Oblivion, and i must say my expectations were completely blown away with Skyrim's release.
This game has not only surpassed the excellence set by its predecessors, it actually sets a very high benchmark for any RPGs after it.
It has actually moved the RPG genre forward in gaming, and playing it is like watching a glimpse of the future evolution of RPGs.
As a Bethesda game, naturally i had my expectations that Skyrim will probably be pretty buggy at launch,
and while there are bugs, they are very much reduced now. Actually played 13 hours before i had a CTD.
This is probably the first Bethesda game that has the lowest amount of bug at launch. Well done QA Team.
The world environments are naturally expected to be of a high detail and quality as expected of an Elder Scrolls game,
but Skyrim really takes it to another level. So detailed i can even SEE FRICKING TERMITES on a tree stump!!!
Seriously, which RPG allows this?? This amount of detail is quite simply INSANE. I couldn't believe my eyes when i first
saw them, and i spent a good 30 mins closely inspecting them just to be sure it wasn't an unintended graphical glitch. To whoever who designed
this game to have these termites, don't think that we gamers just skim thru and not notice it, because we do, and we LOVE you all the more for it.
The other feature i really love, is actual water current mechanic. When i first fell into a river, i was so surprised to see my character
move on her own, and at first i thought perhaps my keyboard had a key stuck or there is a bug. Again i was awed, when i finally
realize that it was really water currents that was moving her downstream. Quite simply my jaw dropped.
Bethesda definitely has taken a long hard look at some of the better mods for Oblivion and incorporated them in Skyrim.
Things like lighted windows at night, farm animals in town, and a myriad of other features are surely good examples of this.
Perhaps this is Bethesda way of acknowledging the excellent quality and hard work of the modding community.
As i play the game almost exclusively as a magic-user using no weapons, the overhaul magic combat just simply works. period.
Left hand right hand casting just feels so natural and smooth. Every combat i fight in Skyrim as a magic user has simply been a joy.
I LOVE placing fire runes all over the place and watching mobs fly all over, while me simultaneously "Fire-Hadoken" them lol!!
I do miss custom spellmaking alot, and was abit disappointed that it won't be in the game. Hopefully it'll be modded, or as a DLC in the future.
As Max Scoville said in the Destructoid Video Review of this game:
"I honestly think the game pushes the boundary of what Art is. The world of Skyrim is a virtual world. Its a place you can legitimately get lost in.
It should not only be applauded, it should be FEARED because turning off Skyrim and going outside to ride the bus to work is like a dismal experience."
I couldn't have said it better myself.
Sure, the game has its flaws, all games do. No games are ever perfect. Skyrim is damn near to perfection as it can get.
To any pirates who dares pirate this game, and if you do not feel ashamed in doing so, you probably do not have a soul.
On a final note, i'd really like to give my sincere appreciation and thanks to the entire Bethesda team
who have obviously sweat blood and tears into this Masterpiece. A labour of love from Gamers, to Gamers.
Thank you.
