Skill Caps!

Post » Wed Nov 21, 2012 4:14 am

I need to know what they are, or where to find them!

Here is my question:

I have 100 sneak. I'm able to enchant items with 40% sneak bonus (I think...I'll have to double check that) but even if I'm wrong, lets assume that I can. Boots, Gloves (i think), necklace, ring, all 40% which gives me 160% bonus to my 100 sneak. At which point does that just become overkill and useless?

Same with bonus to one handed or two handed, or Illusion, or any other skill for that matter.

So, feel free to comment. Your candor is always welcome, but I'm hoping that there is a website out there that I haven't found that will provide me with these numbers so I can build accordingly.

No sense in having a 160% boost to my sneak if only 80% of it is effective.

[Edit: Heh, just occurred to me that this topic should probably be in the Skyrim section...and not in "Dawnguard". :P Mods, feel free to move it if the need arises :D...and I apologize for my error.]

I can definitely confirm that you can become effectively invisible if your sneak value is high enough. Even to the point where you can attack opponents standing directly in front of you without fear of detection provided you remain crouched.

I'm just not certain what that precise value is. I was only able to achieve this by using the potion of restoration exploit to make ridiculous enchantments to my equipment. The sneak % value on my boots was in the seven-digit figures, most certainly well over the % value where raising Sneak no longer serves any purpose.

For archery, two handed, and one handed, AFAIK, there is no cap. For armor, light or heavy, it doesn't matter since armor protection is capped at 567. For smithing and alchemy there is no cap. For spell cost you can fortify any school down to the point where it costs 0 magicka to cast a spell.

Good to know :)

What, seriously? So there's no point in having an armor rating any higher than 567?

Don't know about alchemy, but I'm not sure what you say is true of smithing. Using the same exploit I mentioned earlier, I enchanted myself a (garment) of Smithing with a ludicrously high value that turned out to be useless to me as it didn't allow me to improve my equipment any better than the state it was already in.

Not that it matters anyway, having learned that armor rating caps at 567.
