7 Skills Tree still a good spread?

Heya

Absolutely loving Skyrim so far. My question is thus:

In previous TES games you had to chose 7 skills to start with. Is 7 Skill trees still a good idea to invest in?

Here's an example:

I'm building a Knight type dude. And was thinking of:

One Hander, Block, Heavy Armor - as my main skills.
Restoration, Alteration - as my magic skills. Usually just for buffing myself during fights and healing etc.
Smithing, Enchanting - as my crafts.

This brings my total skill set to 7 trees. Is this a good idea in Skyrim or am I spreading myself too thin?

How many Perk points total do you get in the game? Is it 50 or 70. I've heard conflicting reports. It would be good if it was 70 - then you know you could spend 10 in 7 trees...

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

The ideal is 5 I think. 7 is viable too but I don't think you'll be able to get every perk of those 7 skills. I'm doing a pure destruction mage and I'm focusing my perks on 3 skills (Destruction, Speech & Alchemy).

OK - so conflicting reports again :D

Do you get perks after 50? Anyone got an official answer?

Would love to be able to spread into 7 rather than 5.

Anyone know?

You get perks all the way up to the max level of 81. You can't level past that because that's where you are when all your skills reach 100. Don't want to spoiler but a few more perks are available from a quest. You can get a total of 85 perks.
