As i dislike steam, as well as the fact that Skyrim crashes more frequently with steam running, I have made a simple shortcut from the Skyrim.exe to desktop.

This worked fine for a week or so, then this shortcut by itself started to run steam first again. Redid link but no avail. Does someone know how to solve that?

You can no longer run Skyrim without Steam. They patched it so you could no longer do that.

That's because a 'stealth update' replace the exe with one that starts steam. Only alternative you have is to reinstall the older exe file, and make sure that steam does not auto-update the game. There is a global setting, and also a setting specifically for the game, not sure if they will actually disallow the update though.

Can't do it anymore.

The ability to launch the game from the exe and not require Steam seems to have been an error that they just recently rectified with a patch, restoring the Steam requirement.

If you buy a door for your house, they do not say you have to use their kitchen too now do they? I dislike the fact that I must enroll in a media I do not want at all, mainly due identity and private stuff.

I can now run in offline mode.

The patch broke that, then, after getting the exe from steam (rather than CD install) and deleting some files and other mess ... I can now play offline.

It's a different task tray icon thatn the one I got with pre-installing steam before skyrim released.
