Skyrim is AWSOME, but why did you add finishing moves from f

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 3:02 am

I'm really enjoying this game so far, a couple hours in and I'm already consumed by the world known as Skyrim. My only complaint at this point is why the H*## did you guys add the animated finishing moves from Fallout? Those moves had there place in a game like Fallout, but in The Elder Scrolls they just don't belong. The Elder Scrolls franchise is your flagship franchise, you should never try to bring things from Fallout into Elder Scrolls or vice versa. In my first dragon slaying my final blow went to a cheesy animation where my character puts his axe in the dragons scull which I felt I had no control over because it felt scripted.

Glad you feel you can speak for everyone.
I for one like them.

Oh my. who's Bethesda going to listen to now?

They self-censored "Hell"? Hahaha! I want to write this person off as a child and move on, but I feel the need to reply.

First, they're not as annoying as you think. They're short and sweet and get you back to real time in no time.

As for bringing in features from Fallout; Why not? They're learning. They're seeing what works and employing it in another series. I'm perfectly fine with this. It's called education and evolution.

I like them too, adds a bit of drama and excitement. You may not have control of the finishing move itself but its only triggered but you the player landing the killer hit so you can still take credit for it.

Don't be a jerk. It is a bit tedious to always write "I think" and "in my opinion". Of course, its just his opinion and he is not speaking for everyone.

I was afraid of finishing moves until I saw them. Now I can admit they don't bother me at all.

I like them when they work.

My first dragon slaying looked TERRIBLE with over half my body clipping into the ground at points, but others look really good (usually the first person ones, actually) the third person one's end up with my character standing there for 5 seconds like an idiot.

I like them, but that's not very interesting, I guess.

Stating that nothing from Fallout should ever be put in a TES game or vice versa is quite narrowminded. Fallout and the TES games are both very strong IP's and if an exchange in mechanics and such makes them both better games, sure, go for it. As long as the devs remember that that both are different IP's. But I think Bethesda will be very much on top of that.

I love how they took the slow-mo finishing moves from fallout 3, but they say "this is not fallout, we will not add locational damage/severed limbs"

Being this was my first post on these forums I have yet to come to an understanding of what is and what is not acceptable language here. I've post on forums where hell wasn't acceptable, I assume from your response it is here.

They do happen quickly, I just don't care for them.

Finishing moves are delightful after countless repetative "air sweeps" around the enemy like in older TES games. Don't be such a nit picking [censored].

That was the initial point I was trying to make, I probably could have worded it better.

Personally, I like them, more in theory than execution. They often don't look very good. They're mechanical or there are clipping issues as others have said. They are often cool, but my preference would be for a toggle for on and off as well as a toggle for first person only finishers. I play first person and I really like the fp finishers.

I also dislike them, they even have the same terrible slow more bullet/metal clanking sound. It svcks.

A slomo kill from a perk like the ones under the 1hand skills or from a backstab is cool, but this reused material from a different game really takes away from the fun of a new game..

So how about we trade the slow motion none perk related kills for the ability to dodge via rolling or quickstepping? It is almost 2012, i think all adventures have learned than walking slowly to avoid being hit ended back in 1999 lol.

I don't feel as involved in the combat,

I click my mouse button in on an enemy once, and then the silly finishing move does the rest for me.

I enjoy them. They're cinematic and awesome. There's nothing more gratifying than to have an annoying human enemy trash-talk you and then impale them on your sword. It's perfection, people.

I dislike the addition of finishing move animations, but not so much that it bothers me. If I had the option to turn them off, I would.

The first time I saw Fallout, I said "Oh my god I can't wait to see them implement the things they learned from this game in a new Elder Scrolls title". Finishing moves or not, the logic in the OP the criticism is based on makes me weep for humanity.

I like finishing moves, it makes things more epic and realistic. They could have looked a bit better but still a move in the right direction.

Doesn't the entire game feel very much like fallout? I don't really get that Tes-feeling.. at least not yet..

I really enjoy them. that being said there are problems most of which have been mentioned. the first person finishers are great but some of the third person ones look funky. Im glad they are there tho makes the fights more real. a option to turn them off would be a good thing for those that want them off but fallouts never worked right for me, I would have them shut off and they would still happen all the time that drove me nuts lol.
