Skyrim on different drive (SSD) than Steam (HDD)

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 2:45 am

Hello everyone,

with the unlock of Skyrim approaching (about 16 more hours for me) I really want to start getting an issue I have out of the way. I recently bought a 120Gb SSD, aside my 250Gb HDD. I installed Steam and all its' games on my HDD (E:\) so far, but I want Skyrim on my SSD (C:\). Does anyone have an idea on how to do this? I can't check the Steam forums right now for a solution as they have been down for a couple of days :)

Think that one over for a second.

Edit: Now consult https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7710-tdlc-0426 with that in mind.

Edit2: I'm in the same situation, but Skyrim is my only steam game so it wasn't a tough decision for me.
@Below: It's not anti-steam, it's a question about using steam.

I already did that, but that also copies all my games, which obviously, my SSD doesn't have the room for... Do you think simply moving the Steam.exe and making a new folder called SteamApps instead of copying my current one would fix it?

Copy the Skyrim folder to your SSD.
Open a command prompt and type the following:
mklink /j "skyrim steam directory" "skyrim ssd directory"
Eg.
mklink /j "e:\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim" "f:\skyrim"

Or use GameSaveManagers Steam Spreader function which does essentially the same.

I tried that application first as it seemed the easiest, and it worked like a charm! Thanks a ton ^_^
