Skyrim does NOT need Steam

No idea why but the game works fine without Steam running in the background, we just have to launch directly the TESV exe. Looks like the Skyrim launcher is hooked to the Steam client but the game executable is not. It's the very first Steam game I see working this way, no idea if it's a bug or if it's intentional.

You still need Steam to install, hence it is still DRM.

Actually, lots of steam games can do this.

Steam is used to check for updates and to get your unlock rewards.

You can launch 2 different exe's

TESV.exe goes right to the game.

Skyrimlauncher.exe goes to the launcher to change options.

I assumed everyone already knew this.

You won't get achievements when steam is not running, nor be notified of patch updates avaible, which is the only reason for steam. The other part of it required for the key runs hidden as a resource.

The officially supported method of playing Skyrim is to run the game using Steam. Closing this thread.
