Is Skyrim "Dumbed Down" Compared to Previous TES Games? [mer

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 1:42 am

Its obvious that Bethesda put more effort in other features and took less time on others... Its sad people expect to have a 100% perfect game handed to them. I dont think you people realize how long it takes to create a next generation game like this. If you dont like it then dont buy it simple as that, nobody wants to hear a bunch of "advlts" cry, you say your advlts try acting like it.

i feel bad for Bethesda, they create such an awesome game and they have to deal with cry babies nit-picking their games on minor nonsense. Try appreciating whats given.

I played arena for 5 hours and there were puzzles where you had to type in a certain word, no multiple choices.

Riddles are bad for the game, as most of the time they cannot be adequatedly translated.

Expecting fancy dialogue from everyone in Skyrim is expecting Shakespeare from a African Village.
The main point of putting puzzles in dungeons is to stop people from rushing through it.
I agree with Spence, you need to appreciate the good things in the game.

Only dialogue I was ever impressed with was one with the Grey Beards, especially the last ones you get with them when you kill Pathx. Besides that they should definetly be more blood, gore & swearing lol.

Dude/tte, this is a non-spoiler section.

Thanks for that.

In future, please use the spoiler tags ... (spoiler)spoiler goes here(/spoiler) and replace () with [].

I'm pretty sure the guy meant "pooh-pooh" not "poo-poo". Especially since only the former makes any sense grammatically.
Yes, with a h, now i remember, sorry english is not my best language, i do my best. Using a phone on your work break to post does screw up things. To pooh pooh is not a childish term, to be perdantic of others is childish, but thats off topic. Its a very important part of beths games imo, the books the notes, if the next fallout lacks the proper dialouge and doesnt have lengthy computer input then i think i may be done with beths, which is a shame, all the best franchises go to hell, cnc, fo and tes have always been my fav games, well ea got there hands on cnc long ago, ive always hoped beth could sail above the rest with out resorting to such pandering to the masses, i just dont think its true that ppl wont read, here we all are on a message bord, thousands of books mags n news papers sell every day n im surposed to belive people wont read through the dialougue options or may get confused.

overencombered Vs you carrying to much crap.

puzzles i know are new and no one likes to get stuck and take forever but a little or a few latteral challenges would have been nice.

Why have puzzles anyway? Is anyone clamoring for more puzzles? I don't feel that is a big component of a RPG. They're simple, I agree but I don't feel the need to get challenged in that department in this kind of game.

I agree with the dialogs though. It's a small improvement over Oblivion which has the most basic and childish dialogs I've seen lately. There doesn't seem to be much thought put into them.

Voice acting improved a lot too but not enough in comparison with the competition. That mage in Whiterun... how did he get the part? It sounds like he's just reading the lines, not acting. Plus the diction problem... "to dishcush the oshtilitishs like the resht of the warriorshh" or whatever that was...

Hmmm...

I am. I'm calling out for more, but more importantly, better puzzles. They add variety to the gameplay. I like making my way around dungeons while actively engagging both my left and right side of the brain, thank you.

Puzzles re a nice addition. Just don't have them the way Dungeons used to be: virtually alike and way too easy.

I agree. The Greybeards questline provides a combination of good dialogue and great voice acting.

poop is poop, who cares how it's spelled? Either way, a grown person should stay away from using extreme childish sentiments, when trying to make a point!

I quit playing JRPG's because of (among other things) the annoying puzzles they would just plop in to artificially extend playtime. Honestly, It's more fun for me to try and find a way around them rather than bother with the puzzle itself.

The difficulty of the puzzles should be higher.... the dialogue is not top flight, but I wasn't expecting anything stellar from Bethesda.

For those saying the puzzles are dumb why not also offer what puzzles you would like to see? Simply saying what exists is dumb without offering better solutions isn't going to point Bethesda in a better direction.

Wouldn't be much point to the puzzles if we offered solutions too. :teehee:

There used to be a whole genre of games with almost nothing but puzzles, called "Point-and-Click Adventures". These games had plenty of different types of puzzles that could be useful in a 1st person game too. Word puzzles, mixing items like potions, building a device you can use to access a dungeon etc. etc. etc. Maybe we get to translate an ancient text by ourselves? A certain "master" in the game is already banging on our head with the dragon language. How about we get to actually use that for something?
Not every problem in the game needs to be immediately solvable by a 5-year old. Make us spend some effort on the puzzles, and reward it, I say.

I would love to have seen a post better written.
More conscious use of spacing, interpunctuation.

As it is, I agree with the title.
Its quite the hur-dur.

As I kid I used to play cops and robbers with my friends. We used to pretend the robbers were going to [censored] a woman or something so the cops had to save her.

As for the necromacer part... I'm... not even going to go there...

To Pooh-pooh something means to express disdain or contempt. Its from the early 19th century and has nothing to do with defecation. Although he misspelt it, his original use was correct - and mature use of - English.

I agree, but it's not surprising. ES games have never had good dialogue[...] since Morrowind.

Sorry, but I had to add the bolded part.

totally agree with OP. the puzzles are awful. and other aspects of the game are not what i had expected it to be. Although the first play through was fun and i love the lore and the elder scrolls series because there is no other game like it, i cant see myself putting as much time in skyrim as i did with oblivion. i know its sad to think about but its true. i got to overhyped for this game and to be honest, im sure it wont get any better with the next elder scrolls game either.
