Skyrim Fans...try Hunted: the Demon's Forge!

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 8:35 am

A really great game that cam out this year from Bethesda and InXile was Hunted: The Demon's Forge. Despite good exposure at E3 and other venues, sort of premiered as Gears of War medieval style (3rd person with cover system), Hunted did not do as well as developers had hoped. In a year full of big name franchise releases, if you weren't paying close attention to game releases, it was easy to overlook any of them.

As I have been playing Skyrim, I have been seeing alot of similarities in style to Hunted...the difference is that the characters in Hunted, Caddoc and Elara have pretty cool personalities. Whereas your character in Skyrim doesn't...and I wonder what it would be like if the character you choose to be in Skyrim had a personality that you could somewhat customize....kinda cool to consider.

Anyway, Hunted to me is stylistically very similar to Skyrim, a really fun CO-OP game to play with friends, bow and arrow, sword and magic style game. I think Skyrim fans would love it...

Actually, I would like to see Caddoc and Elara from Hunted make a DLC appearance in Skyrim - would be really cool. We have the Sky forge, The Atronach Forge....why not The Demon's Forge - we could make Demon armor - how cool would that be!

So, I'm highly recommending Skyrim fans looking for a quick break from Skyrim to play something similar with a friend - Hunted: The Demon's Forge would be a good pick. any skyrim fans - have you tried Hunted - POST here - your thoughts.

Lastly, I wanted to say that the "Bow Aiming" mechanic in Hunted - is alot better than the one in skyrim - try it - you'll see.

Oh, you can find it, I'm sure...you can get a good used copy of it at Gamestop for somewhere around 20 dollars....

It has a really cool feature as well, where you can make your own survival maps....like Horde maps. You can unlock strong enemies and just kill stuff from one level/area to the next. You can also customize the sequence of the maps and style....really cool.

I really liked Hunted. One of the most underrated games of this year. I found it to be pretty punishing on higher difficulty levels too which is a good thing, but I believe this was a turnoff to the little kids who play games nowdays, and enjoy having their hands held. The difficulty and lack of multiplayer, focusing on co-op instead made this have a pretty oldschool feel, which was probably another turnoff for the Guitar Hero generation.

Honestly, Hunted was just okay. It billed itself as "Gears of Warcraft" and seemingly just took the worst features from 3PSes and hack and slash RPGs.

The game is way too dark (there's more than a few segments where you can't even see your character), way too brown, the character's way too emotionally detached and the game honestly reaches more than a few points where the characters are only proceeding forward because, if they didn't, there'd be no game.

Not to mention that the gameplay is kinda broken, with the melee guy (Cadoc) getting ruined by the very tactically-minded enemy's superior positioning and heavy use of ranged weapons. Bizarrely, co-op is actually much harder, as you only get a limited number of "revives" from the downed state and with two people you burn through them twice as fast.

Ehh... it's okay.

Tried it when it first came out, and it was pretty terrible in just about every aspect. Aside from how terribly uninspired the characters, combat system and setting was, the technical issues were the biggest let down. Didn't really expect anything that deep to begin with, but even for a mindless hack-and-slash it fell short. The online play was completely broken and I spent hours trying to connect to people, who often times just got disconnected while we played. The controls were forked as all hell (played it on PC). All the interfaces were incredibly clunky, and were basically butchered and slapped together from the console UI. It was just...Bad.

Brian Fargo used to make some incredible games. His studio now is just bad though. I wish inexile would put out a decent game like interplay use to.

Well, no matter what your opinion is of Hunted...it is very similar to Skyrim. Some things are actually better like the Bow Aiming Mechanic and the fact that you can play it with friends. skyrim would be killer as a PvP.

No, I'm not getting paid for this...LOL - I really belive that Skyrim fans who have not played Hunted - WILL like it.

Also, some idiot said earlier that it was offensive to call him a "fan" of skyrim...The Elder Scrolls/Skyrim franchise does have "fans"...I consider myself a fan of the franchise - If you aren't a "fan" - then this post isn't speaking to you - simple enough right?

The only similarity is that both have a good share of bugs, at least from the IGN review I just watched.

i consider myself a customer, and customers expect a certai standard of dealing.

a fan takes it up the wrong un and says thank you, then goes rifling through bettys bins for some used toilet paper to worship.

i`ll stay a customer, that way i can shave in the morning and look myself in the eye

While we're redefining words, "customer" means "has sweaty intercourse with goats". Gratz on being a customer.

Smaller game. No personal interest. No big hype/friends talking about it. No unique ideas or exceptionally high-quality seen. Will end up being ignored in the end. Voted no, and won't. This is why.

So many games meeting my requirements of...
-personal preference (settings, gameplay)
-exceptionally high quality
-unique ideas

...that I'm 85% sure I won't play it. :sadvaultboy:

The 15% is in case a friend has it and I don't know and I go to their house while they play it one day. I'll want to try.

I thought there was no advertising and no off-topic posts on this board?

Or is it different when it's a Bethesda product?

Thanks for posting about Hunted - now maybe everyone clamoring for co-op can go play that game and leave TES alone.

Looked bad to me, and got bad reviews. Think I'll stick to Skyrim and Team Fortress 2, if I need a new single player I might get Arkham City.

Completely different game made by a completely different developer. This has nothing to do with Skyrim...
