Skyrim File Size....

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 5:40 pm

Anyone else slightly suprised that Skyrim is less then 6gigs? This is the only thing that has me worried about the game... Meaning 5.5 gigs equates to much less content then I previously thought... Could be wrong though but thats really not a big game. Thoughts?

Bethesda has stated numerous times that the filesize is because of a new compression technique. And is not an indication of the game size.

File size really dont mean a ton, most of thats just textures really, the game scripts and such are really small.

Well I understand Day one patch will add a little, but I am kind of interested in just how much is being compressed compared to other games.

^this. They've stated there's 300 hours of gameplay in it.
I don't know how much they said people could get out of Oblivion but I got >1000 and I'm exceedingly confident it was significantly smaller in terms of content and detail (yes, the physical size of the in-game world was if anything, very slightly larger in Oblivion, I know).

All you need to know is that you will have AT LEAST 300 hours of gameplay.

Oblivion was announced for 50 hours.

Here you got your comparison.

Others?

Dragon age origins= 60
Morrowind= 80
Xenoblade= 70

that being middle values of what gaming magazines and publishers said.

Found a screenshot on the Nexus forum from someone who had finished preloading:

Interesting to see that the voice bsa file is 1.3 GB while the Oblivion ones were 1.66 GB together, and Fallout 3's 1.72 GB. Looks like they definitely improved their compression, as I doubt we'll have less voice acting.

Also there's an update.esp (or esm, can't see) , which I assume is what they'll be using for those quick updates they promised. Better than having to download the whole 240 MB Skyrim.esm for every patch! :P
