Skyrim: good game, or the best game?

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 9:09 pm

This forum seems to consist almost entirely of whining, but the fact of the matter is that Skyrim is a very good game. It's not perfect, of course, but it's pretty damn close. The only question is: is Skyrim merely one of the best games ever made? Or is it the best game ever made?

I don't really think you can compare games that are of a different genre. So I would not deem Skyrim the best game ever.

The one mechanic I have most trouble with is the lack of "wow" to the items we find. Most of the best-of-the-best are found by doing quests... fairly easy quests, or by making them yourself at a sacrifice of time and skill points. I don't particularly like that.

Even though PC sales only account for 14% of all copies of Skyrim sold, this forum if more like 60-70% PC gamers. That's where the whining comes from. They are aggressively nit-picky about the stupidest crap I'd have never noticed otherwise.

I think it's a lot more than 14%, but I haven't seen the exact numbers. I'm a PC gamer myself, and I'm not really nit-picky, but it is kind of annoying that Bethesda couldn't bother designing an interface more suited to mouse use. The other aspects of the game are good enough to make up for it, but it svcks when you have to reload because the game chose a dialogue option or sold an item that you didn't want it to.

It's a very, very good game. Not the best. But very good. It will get better with the patch, and mods will elevate it higher, as will (hopefully) DLC. We'll see.

The only thing i dont think i've seen players do on the fourms yet is contemplate suicide you'd think its the worst game ever while in truth its probably one of the best RPGs of all time.

I just said that because I hate biased polls. I'd rather answer a poll where he or she would've asked our order of preferences from Arena to Skyrim.

Besides the lag problems on the PS3 that are being addressed by the next patch and numerous quest-item glitches, it's one of my favorite games out of -any- that ive played. If the lag gets fixed I dont expect to be playing anything else for quite a while.

I can also say, without hesitation, Skyrim is top 5 material for me as well. (among, in no particular order, D2, Morrowind, NCAA FB series, and Forza 4)

It's great, but definitely not above the last three TES games in my opinion.

It maybe has a chance of surpassing Oblivion in a few years time depending on what the modding community comes up with. We'll see.

Skyrim was my most anticipated game and as such the biggest disappointment. It is a very beautiful world, but it is not of TES quality and they should be ashamed of what they have done to the franchise. The magic in this game is insulting and a huge step backwards. The interface I can live with though it was clearly not meant for the PC (of which I use, though I own a PS3 I prefer to use computers for RPGs). The inclusion of Steam into the mix has made things even more bizarre and I am sure is responsible for the fact the constuction kit is not launched as of yet. So of your choices of good or the best, meh, none of the above.

I'd say it exceeds Oblivion (which was my favorite game), so that makes it the best game for me. I do kinda like the size and population of the cities in Oblivion more, but for overall look and diversity Skyrim wins BY FAR.

Yeah.... pretty sure they're far from ashamed lol.
