Skyrim hardcoe Mode. Oh, How I Want It.

Post » Wed Aug 22, 2012 2:55 am

If you've played Fallout: New Vegas, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

For those of you who have not played F:NV, hardcoe mode was the idea that your character had needs, (Almost like The Sims, but a bit different.) In hardcoe mode, you had to constantly watch your character's food and water intake, and how much sleep they were getting, in addition to the other things, such as radiation and limb damage.

If your character ran out of food or water, they would perish. If your character didn't get enough sleep, they would pass out on the spot.

The hardcoe mode revolutionized the gameplay, for the only game who had anything similar to it would be The Sims.

I wish Skyrim would have a hardcoe mode, even as a small DLC. I'd pay up to $10 for it. It made the role-playing experience for F:NV a lot easier and it would make Skyrim's role-playing that much easier as well.

Also, in addition to my wish (which unfortunately I will never see), I would be in high hopes that included with hardcoe mode, you could repair your weapons and armor. All it would take is a few ingots to repair your armor to maximum, like the good ol' days in Oblivion.

Oh well, I guess I'm just rambling on about things that will never take place. Still, I wish it were available. =(

hardcoe mode in NV was just a nuisance. It takes more than being forced to drink some water every one and then to call it "hardcoe". That being said, there's already a similar thread in the 1st page http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1405068-hardcoe-mode-toggle-in-skyrim/

hardcoe mode wouldn't work because skyrim is an dungeon crawler and "needs" would only slow the gameplay down. It works to some extent in NV because it focuses on surviving rather than bashing peoples heads with a warhammer.

Skyrim is all about playing at your own pace. Some people spend 15 seconds in Riverwood, when you can really spend up to 4-5 hours in that one small community, much less the bigger cities.

It's a shame people are on these forums just to argue. Is there someone out there that actually has a good attitude about anything?

You can have hardcoe mode. I do.... Eat and sleep everyday. There... done. Thirst isn't really an issue, you are surrounded by snow. In NV it made sense because you were in a desert, and most of the water was radioactive. None issue in Skyrim.

Oh and with destruction you can cast ice shards, and then use fire to melt them.... ah.. water! I imagine you could just summon water to drink if you can summon ice shards but there is no spell for that. If there was a hardcoe mode... there would be such a spell.

I guess what I'm getting at is a small program that helps you regulate your character. I don't find the game very authentic if you can travel around for months without eating, drinking, or sleeping. That's all.

FNV hardcoe mode is a good idea on paper, but that's where it stops. It got old very fast, and I had to turn if off because I was constantly reminded by the on screen indicator that my avatar was either thirsty, hungry, sleepy or whatever. If that isnt an immersion breaker I dont know what is.

I'm not being rude but considering that skills, quests and story revolve around killing things it sort makes no sense to have features that do not enforce skyrim like gameplay. I would rather have Beth fix their currently broken game mechanics before intruducing new mechanics.

I like my experiences as authentic as possible. I didn't say I live through the game, for I have a life of my own. =\

Again, wtf is with all the arguements? Got nothing better to do? Go outside. Let me have my fun.

Then don't travel around for months without eating and sleeping. Eat and sleep everyday.... I'm doing it with most of my characters.

However one is a vampire, and another a several thousand year old Telvanni wizard. The one drinks blood which the game actually encourages you not to drink if you want to be more powerful. The other drinks magicka potions instead of eating food, and he rarely feels the need to sleep.... He has found ways of not needing either. Most of the characters I've created do eat and sleep everyday though. It is really easy. You walk into a tavern, spend 10 gold on the room, and 10 gold on food and then you sleep. It costs about 20 gold a day unless you are in a city where you have a house... then the cost is actually far far higher.

Its called roleplaying. People were doing it fine decades before NV came out. In NV I also played hardcoe, but having hardcoe mode and having achievements associated with it forces the people who don't want or don't care to have to do it if they want 100% completion. So your idea has 0 effect on me or you who already do this. But it could force other players to play a way they don't want to, and that is why they are arguing with you.

I also don't fast travel, and I play dead is dead.... We probably shouldn't force those on other players either.

I hear what you're saying. My character has been active for over 60 (game days) and I have well over 300 hours slept. I appreciate your suggestions.

Also, do you know why you get Well Rested bonus in the inns and not in your home? I never figured that one out.

You get a well rested bonus at an inn, or your house. You get a rested bonus if you sleep just anywhere, and you get a lovers comfort if you have a spouse sleeping with you.

Hmm. My game must be glitching out then. When I sleep in my homes, I don't get the well-rested bonus. It doesn't matter much now anyway, my character is a werewolf now.

I'm interested in your post as I've never played in hardcoe mode (for any game) and am intrigued to know how it might work in Skyrim. Maybe it wouldn't work but it was worth asking the question and it was worth stating that you'd be interested. And if the question has been raised before, so what? I haven't noticed it either, and sometimes when a thread appears it just happens to be when you're thinking along the same lines. Some people need to prioritise their lives.
