Skyrim logo and Loading screen stuff turns red

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 12:01 am

Looks like http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/630733235527214788/62F8FD14457B8530B2402F205FCBC19153464BA0/

Also every item or creature that appears on loading screens will be dyed red.
This isn't the first time this happens to me :whistling:

Usually resetting my skyrim.ini file fixes this when it happens... but in this case its not allowing me to fix it. no matter my skyrim.ini or skyrimprefs.ini settings.
what i did to cause this was set my skyrim.ini ugridstoload to 9 or 7 with the exteriorloading stuffs set to the proper amount aswell
then to fix my savefile since i crashed too often. i opened console and typed "Setini "ugridstoload:general" 5" and then "saveini" and then "refreshini"
just like i always do, then usually after doing that i get this red tint bug, what i always did then was either to just delete the ini file and have the game generate a new one, or copy an old one.
this time that isn't fixing it. so this time something else than the my games\skyrim\skyrim.ini is messed up :/

anyone know a way to get out of this mess other than clean reinstall? would be much appreciated :)

rUIMistMenu_AmbientZPosRGB=0,0,0

i tried removing all mods (renaming all folders, like textures, interface, etc, in data folder) apart from killable children and death reload 30 mins

no effect at all. except uglier logo (since i'm using a custom high res logo i downloaded from skyrimnexus)
apart from that stuff, i'm using http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2531 (since i'm not using the fxaa injector as my ini settings make it just.. unnecessary i thought, why not use enb fixes) the 4gb.exe and well thats it, i'm pretty certain this is not caused by mods.

If you used the saveini command, the .ini will be in your data file. It can be deleted.

Using 'saveini' inflates the ini file from 4X odd lines to 104X lines.

When this happened to me, this is exactly how I fixed it.

Try using 'saveini' in game again, then look for those lines.

When you reset the ini's you lost the 1000 extra options (These settings included.) but not the effect.

Uhm... i tried using the saveini command again.. nothing happened... so i tried repeating the "Setini "ugridstoload:general" 5" and then "saveini" and then "refreshini"

That generated a skyrimcustom.ini file, within which there were the lines
rUIMistMenu_AmbientZPosRGB=0,0,0
rUIMistMenu_AmbientZNegRGB=0,0,0
rUIMistMenu_AmbientYPosRGB=0,0,0
rUIMistMenu_AmbientYNegRGB=0,0,0
rUIMistMenu_AmbientXPosRGB=0,0,0
rUIMistMenu_AmbientXNegRGB=0,0,0

i removed them, and still nothing happens.
(so i put them back in)

http://www.text-upload.com/read.php?id=217296&c=3136527 are all my ini settings. skyrim.ini, skyrimcustom.ini and skyrimprefs.ini (seperated with ----- and their filenames)

Sorry, but I'm stumped.

It works for most people.

Hang on, did you try saving the game, then loading that save after? Not sure if it matters, but I'm just stabbing blindly here.

Shame it didn't work.

I wish you the best of luck. Hope you figure out why at some point.

Hope so too, i also noticed now that my map is all messed up, i tried the fix in the source you sent for that... had no effect either

seems that the options that skyrimcustom has, won't go away even if i delete the file or edit it. something is odd, and i've never had this stuff not fix itself by deleting all ini files until just now which is just after the most recent patch.

And you're in the SkyrimPrefs in your My Games folder, correct? Because the saveini command in the console should expand that like everyone is saying.

Try changing the FOV by typing "fov x" (where x is the desired value. I like 75, default is around 60) and THEN type "saveini" and try to look for those values.

Check Data folder for Skyrim.ini. Seems that after the patch using saveini creates ini there.

I've had this happen to me when using the saveini console command even though I've never changed uGrids. I'd recommend deleting the skyrim.ini file from you \My Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder and letting the launcher create a new one. This worked for me. If it doesn't work for you, then I'd delete all of your ini files and allow them to be rebuilt by the launcher. If you've changed your uGrids setting, however, you'll have to set that back to 5 from within the game, saveini, refreshini and then create a save. If you don't do this, your game won't load with default ini settings because you'll still have an improper uGrids setting attached to your savegame file.

If you choose to delete all ini files, check for them in \My Documents\My Games\Skyrim as well as \steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Skyrim. I've not seen them created in \Data.

This happens because of settings in a skyrim.ini file. It is possible that a mod could cause it as well, but that is outside of my experience with this particular issue.

Fixed: ok there was no skyrim.ini skyrimcustom.ini or skyrimprefs.ini causing this problem

seems after i used saveini, the game created an ini file in my data folder, by the name "killable_children_1_01.INI" which had all these... messed up options identical to skyrimcustom.ini... (i have mod with esp file called killable_children_1_01)

quite a serious bug. fixed by deleting

I am not quite sure what the cure is, but I've heard people know how to fix it. Here is a thread I made after breaking skyrim, and i had a slew of red and silver dragons. If you read through the steps I did, maybe something will stick out.

The problem is some mods have kept flags in them for making INI files when they shouldn't be making them. It's part of the problem with only being able to mostly make these mods using hex editing.

In the OP's case, it was the Killable Children mod.

The release of the CK will most likely stop all of this.

this is a serious Bug ...

Nice to see my thread used as a source....hehhe I am Still using my monster INI file with 1.3, In 1.3 there are some new lines in it to!! I generate a new INI with each change of the engine...But it really svcks now that the generated INI is now saved to the "Data directory". worst part of that is it is sometimes taking an assumed name. Picking a random file and using that name instead of Skyrim.ini. This really needs the Attention of the Dev's.

Nice to see more people know of this issue and the Fix....Even tho the engine saves the Gen ini in the Data dir I still move it to its original spot...

Thank god you figured this out. I had a similar .ini file created. I'm thinking whatever .esp file is loaded last in the load order is what triggers the name for the .ini file the game creates. WOW!! What a weird bug!

I don't know why people refuse to believe that mods released before the construction set/creation kit are likely candidates for these problems when it seems to be the obvious place to start.

Lord of Destruction- I have just fixed mine too- after the 1.3 patch I no longer generated the large Skyrim ini, even though I'm using uGridsToLoad=9. The "rogue" settings were held in a Realistic Water ini in the Data folder. I was aware that deleting the aforementioned lines would revert the menu and map glitches, but I didn't realise the game would save these lines in another folder other than the Skyrim ini.

So good find, thanks all. :trophy:
