Skyrim may be the best game ever made.

I'm a diehard Morrowind fan and consider that one of the best RPGs ever, and it is, but Skyrim is too. It could be the best game ever made, ever, in the history of games. It's so amazingly good.

I just discovered the Dwemer city of Markarth. Wow, I thought Whiterun was amazing, Markarth is like amazing x10. The architecture, the way it's built, is just jaw dropping. And there's so much to see and do. It's incredible really, the amount of things to see in this game. It's almost overwhelming.

Not to spoil anything, but I also visited my first Dwemer ruin, a ruined city. And wow, just wow. First of all, it was amazingly deep and long, took me forever to get through. It was also brutally difficult at times, being jumped by 4 or 5 enemies all at once and having to use every single thing at my disposal to beat them. It was intense. Then on top of that, the loot was amazing. I was constantly picking up valuable and cool stuff. All I could say when it was over is "wow". The designers of this game created something brilliant, that's for sure.

Skyrim is more than a game. It's more than art. It's something amazing and magical. It really is in my opinion, the best game I've ever played.

Does anyone else think this is the greatest game ever made?

I completely agree.

Up until 3 days ago Oblivion was the best game ever made. Now it's Skyrim. That's just my honest opinion. I think that for ALL THE OTHER GAMES I've EVER played in my life, I've probably played them for 400-500 hours. I played Oblivion for about 400 alone. I will play Skyrim for just as much. No games ever come close to ES IV and V in my very personal opinion.

Yup, especially once they patch a lot of the annoyances and bugs out. Skyrim is going to be a huge time sink for many of us.

Blizzard used to be my favorite game developer since the day I picked up Orcs vs Humans for MS DOS. Now with honestly I can say it's Bethesda.... although I will admit I am a bit worried about future consolization of games.

I agree. I've been playing it a great deal since release and am loving it. I'm enjoying it much more than any other Elder Scrolls game, and I've been playing the series since Daggerfall. It's a huge improvement over Oblivion.

I agree, it's one of the best games I've ever played. The last time I played a game where I could burn 12 hours without thinking about it was when I was 24 years old in 2004 playing World of Warcraft. Oblivion ended up being great but it never managed to live up to what the previews made me think it would be. Skyrim has done it. The 3rd person animations are actually fun to watch, I literally walked (not ran) from Whiterun to the Seven Thousand Steps, it took me about 3 hours to get to the temple at the top, I was totally immersed and enthralled the whole time.

I agree that Oblivion was a great game. However, it had flaws. Major flaws. Flaws that to me, did not encourage me to play for 400 hours like I did with Morrowind. The level scaling was just too much, I couldn't take it. And overall, I felt the game was bland. However, for 80-100 hours or so I had a blast with it, and it was great.

Skyrim on the other hand, is amazing and not bland at all. It's as if they perfected the open world RPG completely. There's bits of Morrowind in there, bits of Oblivion, and new bits which are amazing. They really nailed it. I can easily see myself spending 400 hours with this game over a long period of time. Easily.

Agreed. It's easy to see the hand crafting across pretty much every single thing in the world. Makes me miss Morrowind a bit less, and I may never play Oblivion again. Well, maybe just to see.

I love this game so far. I'm playing on the 360.

I haven't been on these boards long, but something I don't understand is all the weird hate PC users seem to have for console players.

For every PC elitist that posts hate, Xbox users pop a 10 point Achievement titled 'Contrary Enjoyment'. Spread the word.

14 hours today.

Here I was thinking that I've finally gotten bored with gaming. Figured, what the hell, I loved Morrowind and Oblivion was great -- I'll pick Skyrim up just 'cause I used to say I couldn't wait for the next installment of TES series. Not getting it would have just been sad.

14 hours played today. 4 hours would go by like it was 30 mins.

Unbelievable how good this game is.

I love the way the player character's leg move according to the terrain now, watching him lean into hills and staircases makes it seem so real!

Hmmm, I don't know, maybe it's the whole trolling thing of calling PC players elitist. :flamethrower:

Anyway, I wouldn't consider Skyrim to be 'THE' best game ever made, but it's darn good thus far.

The world is epic, every little detail is fantastic to explore. Let's not kid ourselves, when it comes to creating worlds Bethesda is number 1. Dragons look great, they sound even better. The roar in the distance when I have wondered into a dragon's range gives me chills.

But the combat is still crappy, there isn't any reason to defend it. Bethesda is taking less than baby steps with it, bandit goes back to his alchemy table with an arrow in his head? Swords are weightless and hit-impact doesn't really exist to the point where enemies look like they're glued to the ground until their health hits zero and the ragdoll kicks in.

This game could have been a true 10 and remembered as the best RPG ever made if they didn't use the same old combat system.

It's still epic, but it's not the best game ever made. I am more obsessed with exploring every nook and cranny of the world than I am with killing every bandit.

I thought I'd burned myself out on games forever, as if age and too much playing had caused me to just be too aware of the boundaries and mechanics behind the scenes. I could'nt play for more than 30 minutes before thinking about other things I could be doing. I can't believe I can lose track of time again playing a game!!

I too thought I was bored of gaming. Now I'm hopelessly hooked on Skyrim. What a great thing! Good to know that quality games are still being made that can get me lost in their gameworlds.

I realized I had to turn off "competitive gaming" mode in my brain. So much gaming out there involves some aspect of competition against other players or a need to get the job done as efficiently and quickly as possible. It hit me, as I was sneaking through a forest at night, watching a distant buck move closer and closer ever so slowly, that I'd just spent a huge amount of time playing, essentially, Deer Hunter. I raised my bow and nailed it. It was such a beautiful moment.

I've barely skimmed the surface of this game, and I think that's how it's meant to be played. I don't know, at least for me...now.

I think that's why I'm able to enjoy Skyrim so much.

It was a great game until it became unplayable on my PS3. The stutter and lag got so bad I had to quit. I will try again tomorrow and see if it's better, but I doubt it. It's just been getting worse.

I wouldn't say THE best game ever made but its definitely in my top 10 list of all time games. I'd rank it up their with SNES Final Fantasy 3 and Mario 64, two major genre-changing games. I like it better then some of my favorites like Chrono Trigger, Street Fighter 2 and original Resident Evil (Original SF2 and RE were ahead of their time imo when they came out and yes I know I'm old as @#$%).

I would say the best game I've ever played. The amount of quality in every aspect of the game from combat, magic, sound, music combined with the sheer insane amount of quantity of quests and world-size... so far so great!

It's stupid how engrossing this game can be. Props to Beth for making me feel a ping of sadness when I accidentally turned my housecarl into a pile of ash, while trying to save her from a giant. My boy Godrik has to live with that guilt for 30+ levels now...
