Skyrim Nexus - Mod hosting

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:42 pm

Hi folks,

Glad to see these mod forums have been created nice and early in anticipation of the release of the CK

As most of you should (hopefully) be aware http://www.skyrimnexus.com has been up and running for a little while now. I wanted to get in there nice and early so people knew where we were, and that I'd be using a new site for Skyrim mods rather than trying to cram Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim mods all on to http://www.tesnexus.com. So let me repeat it again; Skyrim mods go on Skyrim Nexus, Morrowind and Oblivion mods will remain on TESNexus!

I'm all setup for hosting Skyrim mods, all 5 file servers are ready to go and we're ready to burst out in to more if necessary. Skyrim Nexus is already on its own super powerful web-server, so fingers crossed the hordes of people looking for mudcrab/dragon...stuff...won't cause any problems :)

Good luck modders.

In other news, what's going on at the moment at the Nexus?
  • We're in a closed beta with our 7,000+ recognised mod authors on our Nexus Mod Manager. Think OBMM/FOMM but a lot better:
    • Download files directly from the site to NMM using the built in download manager, which allows full download pausing/resuming
    • One-click installs on almost all mods
    • Typical mod management tools you'd find in OBMM/FOMM that have been improved
    • Completely open source (which I doubt any other sites will be able to boast!) under a copy-left GPL license and working with many modders/coders in the community (who know their stuff!) to get the best results. Similarly, means we can ensure future compatibility with BOSS/Wrye/etc., and perhaps, hooks and link-ups with these programs
    • Completely ad free, no ads when downloading or when using NMM
  • Our site code is being upgraded and we're making massive functionality improvements for both mod authors and general site users

Thanks Dark0ne! You do a fantastic job with the Nexus sites and it's a very high quality nice place to host our mods from. Keep up the great work! I can't wait to upload my first quest mod. :D

Also, I love the look! The Skyrim Nexus looks simply amazing! I saw it months ago when you first posted it and almost fainted. It's my favorite one so far!

Good luck with handling the load. I do wonder, though, how quickly the folks will be flooding the bandwidth trying to get Mudcrab armor.

Hi Dark0ne. I don't know about separating Skyrim from TES [Nexus]. I mean, it's all TES, but you must have your reasons :)

Anyway, I came here to sincerely applaud the NMM. A much appreciated and interesting project!

Cheers!

Registered. But I'm using a new account because I couldn't use my old one for some reason. It doesn't matter. I like a shiny new account :)

Thanks for letting us know :) I'll be keeping an eye out for the NMM - I'm used to installing everything manually, but it does sound amazing.

Ahhh I can't wait to start seeing mods flooding in :touched:

I'm currently loving the Nexus Mod Manager, It is very easy to use, and quite seamless when integrating mods into the game.

I'm very excited about the NMM, being slightly technically challenged. I'm hoping it'll ease the installation and trouble shooting process for those of us who aren't comfortable with WRYE etc.

A Nexus Mod Manager? Neat!

Also, just to confirm, it appears that we can use our original Nexus accounts on Skyrim Nexus. The person above must have used a wrong password or something? I logged in just fine.

It's like that across all Nexus sites.

I know, but just to squash any concerns if someone read The Tamriel Terror's comment about not being able to use his existing account.

I've been using my info on the Skyrim Nexus since the day it went live weeks ago, so there really shouldn't be any concerns.

Anyways, personally I'd either prefer each game had their own site or break it up by series. But that's just me.

Bookmarked. Thanks for the heads up!

It makes perfect sense. Consider this all too familiar scenario: User downloads this cool mod, only to find that it does not work. Then User complains to Author, who does not understand why User cannot get it to work. After much sweat and, possibly, gashing of teeth, it becomes clear that User downloaded an Oblivion mod for Skyrim. Or that Author forgot to check the Skyrim checkbox.

Nah, it wasn't a bad password. When I tried logging into the Skyrim Nexus, it said that the name was taken. Yet I was logged off TES Nexus. It doesn't matter to me anymore.

Sounds like a general hiccup then. Maybe try again later on.

Sounds like you accidentally tried to create a new user instead of logging into your account?

Hm. Following your rationale it would make Oblivion users load Morrowind mods more easily when using NMM. A separate domain does not make sense just because of that.

Well unless NMM show conflicts between files and allows you to order them as BAIN does, then I won't be partaking. But good luck none the less.
