Skyrim not detecting my video card

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 7:36 pm

I have a laptop that has one of those power saving features where you turn the switch on and off to turn on the graphic card, however Skyrim isn't detecting that card but only the built in Intel Chip. Is there any solution to this?

Clarify: I have a GTX 560M, Skyrim isn't detecting that card but my laptop's built in graphic card only, Intel HD

What model card have you got? Onboard intel cards are not built for gaming mate.

Edit: What is your other card? :)

gtx 560 I know i can play this game, I looked up the options from the launcher and only the intel chip set is showing up

Edit: Basically my problem is that the game isn't detecting my GTX 560 and only my built in Intel Chipset

Is there a way to turn off\disable the built in chip or disable the powersaving feature so that just the gtx 560 is being used ? (that way the game should find it)

HELLO I have had this same problem, but with a bit of tinkering I found a solution. do what I say please!

I am using windows 7 so hope that's what you have.

either way go down to your task bar where it shows your internet connection and battery life. Click the arrow there and find your Nvidia graphics card settings

now go to "manage 3d settings" > "Global settings" and click the drop down box where it says prefferred graphics processor. Select High performance nvidia processor. then save the settings.

if that doesn't work , instead of global settings go to the program settings tab.

then click on the drop down box and find Steam on the list. then where it says "preferred graphics processor" choose Nvidia processor.

I did this and Skyrim was able to detect my Nvidia card and it chose my default settings as "High"

I really hope this helps, It seems like a pain in the ass.
