Skyrim not recognizing graphics card

Post » Fri Jan 11, 2013 1:19 pm

I was tempted to try an ENB mod but couldn't get it to work because Skyrim Launcher didn't recognize my graphics card (GTX 680M), only Intel HD 4000.
So I deleted the ENB files I moved to the Skyrim folder in SteamApps, verified the game cache in Steam and restored the SkyrimPrefs file in My Documents to a previous version.
Doing this I reckoned all the changes that was made when I downloaded the ENB was nullified.
But when running the Skyrim Launcher now, it will still only recognize the Intel HD 4000, not the GTX 680M.
I also opened the NVIDIA Control Panel and made both SkyrimLauncher.exe and tesv.exe run with the GTX 680M.
Could someone point out to me what I did wrong?

Disable the integrated graphics solution.

Wouldn't that disable Optimus/HD 4000 entirely, thus using much more power than necessary?
Seems strange if that's the only solution, bearing in mind I played the game on ultra high settings just two hours ago.

Thing is, switchable graphics do not work that well. They tend to switch at the worst times.

You want the main one running just about all the time. If you're that concerned about power, then disable the good one when you're not using it and enable the bad solution. Reverse the process for when you want it for something like a game. Having two active can, and generally does, confuse the applications.

Well, I just want things to be like they were two hours ago, that shouldn't be impossible.
Would it help deleting Skyrim completely and reinstalling?
Thanks for the help by the way

Again, switchable graphics are unpredictable. The best option there is to pick one or the other.

Okay, thanks. How do I do this? Edit: Never mind, reinstalling the NVIDIA drivers seemed to do the trick
