Skyrim Radiant Nature

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:01 am

Hey Forum,

I remember reading every little detail about Skyrim up until release and the one that got my attention was the whole Nature will havre radiant AI aswell...

I can't find the article but i remember them saying that "Wolf's won't just wait at the side of the road for players to arrive, they got dens to tend to." i've yet to see any demonstrations like this...have you guys?

Haven't found one yet. I'd like to track each den down and murder them down to the pups though. Tired of having to jump off my horse to kill something with one hit.

Lol heard.

I think there was alot of hype and false promises behind Skyrim.

Don't get me wrong, game is fun and all -- just not what they made it out to be.

Actually... I've run into quite a few wolf dens. We stared at eachother for a bit, and we both decided it wasn't worth it. They were guarding a goat or something, so I walked away without fighting. I've also seen Alduin raising dragons in the wild. There's a lot there bud, just look.

I've seen wolves attack deer, but I've never seen them go home to their den.

Haven't seen any wolf dens. What I do see is no wolves. And then when I walk past? BAM! There they are right on my butt! Sneaky little devils.

How is that relevant to skyrim?

They dont do what they promise in Oblivion, so that gives them a free pass to do it
forever afterwards?

I think its a mixture of both, i've found plenty of wolves on the roads, and a few wolf dens. Although i've never seen a wolf go out of its den and look for food.

I found a bear den, it charged me and I killed it and found it was guarding a freshly killed bandit that was pretty cool. I also found a bear sleeping smack dab in the middle of a road where it was attacked by town guards and managed to down one of em before it died. Got some nice armour from that guard I did!

The nature Radiant AI is stunning. The animals and monsters all seem as if they have their own lives just like the humanoids. I've seen packs of wolves hunt down foxes and other less friendly creatures. I've seen moose run away from me when i drew too near. I've seen blood curdling SKYRIM mudcrabs raging with violent emotions the likes no other mudcrab species has shown in other parts of Tamriel. I've seen wolves give out a mournful howl as i approached as if warning me to not get any closer or they'll acttack. Giants have come to my aid when i was surrounded by Frost Trolls and thought i was history.

Best ai i've seen and the fact that it fills a humongous world like SKYRIM is a joy. It also gives the player more choice which is always a good thing.

Yea I once walked into a den trying to figure out where all the bones were coming from when three of them just tore me to shreds.
(It's a big world OP, you really gotta search to find these things)

Ive seen plenty of wolves and bears ect chasing deers.
And only came across one 'den' , was harvesting in the woods and hear some fighting... i went to look what it was about and apparently 4-5 wolves killed a mamoth infront of their den and a giant was killing them.

I noticed that the talk feature has been removed entirely from giants. I remember reading about a quest that let's you help the giants.

Wolves and deer always spawn ~15 feet away from me, so there is rarely ever a chance to watch them interact with the world. Wolves attack me on sight and deer end up running out of my visibility range so fast that they despawn.

I've seen a lot of human vs human stuff, but I've only seen like 3 or so animal vs animal encounters.

Wolves and Sabertooths have dens, and Wolves don't attack on sight unless you draw too close. In fact I mistakenly backed up when fighting a Frost Dragon into a den of three Frost Sabers. Nearly cost me my life.

I don't remember anyone from Bethesda ever explicitly using the word "promise" in regards to any of the features they talked about being in the game.

Anyways, I've witnessed pretty much everything we were told was going to be there. I forget the name of the village, it's the one you go through to get to High Hrothgar, but I was milling about beside the huge waterfall there and I watched a couple of wolves stalk and kill an elk on the other side of the ravine. Just as I was about to turn around I heard the distinct sound of a bear nearby, so I drew my weapons and watched. I found the bear, and after a few quick strikes it was dead. I noticed a cave entrance nearby littered with dead bodies and bones, so I went inside to find a tiny little bear den with, you guessed it, another bear.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the amount of wildlife present in Skyrim. If you need pelts for leather or other parts for alchemy there is definitely no shortage of animals to harvest from. It also makes the world feel much more dense and populated. I remember trying to play a hunter/ranger-type character in Oblivion and barely even being able to find deer to get pelts. It lives up to the hype in my opinion.
