Skyrim Refuses to load games

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 5:29 pm

Hello There ladies and gentlemen.

I have recently came across a few problems while trying to play Skyrim, up until now I have had no problems with the game what so ever, however now I have a small (well, rather large) problem:

I load up the game, it opens fine without any CTD's or anything of a sort, however as soon as the Bethesda loading screens start i notice that every 4 seconds, it freezes for about a second, when I first saw this I thought "Hmm, that's never happened before, oh well" and proceeded to click continue...It was there that the game simply refused to go any further, I see the loading screen and can even hear the background noises of the game, but I am just stuck on the loading screen, the same thing happens if i try to start a new game, which is very weird.

I verified the game files, no luck, I defraged the game files, no luck, I reinstalled the game, no luck and i ensured that the fresh .ini files had no changes and uninstalled the 4gb mod, still, NOTHING worked past the load screen.

I am not at home right now, so can't show a full dxdiag, but i will give any specs that may be required.

Thanks in advance, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try deleting the skyrim launcher, and tesv.exe. Re-verify the files via steam.

i can reproduce the 2 sec freeze lag on main window.....If i set AA to high. using the in-game AA.

I can also overload it to the point of shutting down the USB bus. (my steering wheel resets).

IF i turn off both AA and AF in the launcher, it goes away. then if i use Nvidia inspector to Set 4 AA and 16 AF with AO, Im am good to go!!

Thanks for your replies guys.

I did something with the AA and now i am getting picture again, however i still have the annoying lag spike every few seconds, even in the start up menu my house stops every few seconds, very annoying, your continued help is appreciated.

The game is stuck on the loading screen and does nothing. Updated to latest graphics driver Nvidia 560Ti driver 285.62, updated PHYSX driver, updated C++, Updated it again, updated Net framework 4.0, ran steam as administrator, changed the file extension from .bak to .ess, bashed my head off desk, Updated Direct X, verified game cache, defragmented game cache, drank a coffee, ran windows update, bought and ran PCMistro and fixed any registry errors, changed my sound settings to 16-bit 44000Hz, reinstalled the game on steam, emailed steam for help, drank another coffee, emailed Bethesda and now I'm here seeing that our problem is not being properly addressed by the notification of a patch to be released. At least if they told me "Our bad man, we'll fix it for next patch," I'd have some sense of hope after 50 hours of gameplay on what has to be the best single player RPG in history. Now I can see why PC Gamer said that 50% of people who start this game will never finish; how could you if you're unable to play?

Running Thermaltake Khandalf Liquid cooled case, Intel Quad 2.8 CPU, Geforce 560Ti Graphics card, 8 gigs corsair ram, 1000 wat thermaltake power supply, Windows 7 32-bit, I know it's an old system so this might be the issue I guess. Any suggestions?
