Skyrim Released in Japan in Two Days

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 9:11 am

I'd like to see if we can help give our Asian buddies a heads up on the situation, and let them know what they're in for. I know a little bit of Japanese, but I'm not fluent. But I do know:

Bethesda Softworks Katakana is ベセスダ ソフトワークス

Skyrim (Katakana) is スカイリム

This should be enough to get the ball rollin'. If anyone who frequents these boards knows some Japanese, please feel free to help out. I've already made a post on a JP board, saying "警告は - エルダースクロールスカイリム(Skyrim)は*PS3*に壊れています。", which basically means Warning: The PS3 version of Skyrim does not function proplerly, http://translate.google.co.jp/translate?hl=ja&sl=en&u=http://ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1214016p1.html&ei=kbrdTtm0EMTf0QHvxPGJBw&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&sqi=2&ved=0CCUQ7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1214016p1.html%26hl%3Dja%26biw%3D1920%26bih%3D931%26prmd%3Dimvns

If it helps, the PS3 Game ID for Skyrim JP is BLJM-60413.

Also if the Japanese text isn't showing up properly, let me know and I'll try and help you out.

Doh... I didn't even consider the time difference. Ugh, note to self, don't do anything that requires brain power at 2 AM =P

And wow, those reviews don't look too hot already.

Already a review up complaining about freezing... I bet you it will be just like Amazon here, where all the reviews were good at first, until everyone went back and edited their reviews to be 1 star after all the crap started.

Interesting that version is more expensive & has an 18 rating & is released on the 12th... Confused now...

That is weird... what's the difference? The only thing I see is that one is CERO rated while the other is ESRB.

(It's released on the 8th too btw)

Once the Japanese get their hands on the game, Bethesda employees are going to want to throw themselves on swords. Does anyone in Japan even play on the Xbox? I'm sure there are some but that number is probably a tiny fraction compared to all the PS3 owners in Japan. The only real thing to do is get the word out to the Japanese, so they are informed about what is going on with Skyrim, before they take the plunge.

There are no ESRB rated games in Japan, only CERO, unless it's imported, and Amazon doesn't allow imports. Probably a temporary/duplicate entry.

Thanks to Jet Black for the links!

The Famitsu Forums are a good place to start if you can read Japanese.

http://www.famitsu.com/

Also Adrian Sang is a great place to get translated Japanese gaming news

http://andriasang.com/

Check out this link fron Adrian Sang news, Bethesda sent Shinji Mikami's team "Tango Gameworks" a copy of Skyrim each... The xbox 360 version... The comments on the article are a funny read.

I'm sure after they play this game they will all want to fire a Cero at it and blow it to hell. :flamethrower:

Hm that sounds a bit mean but: Why would we help the japanese costumers? First of all: I WANT to help them NOT to buy. Thats my inner-feeling. BUT: Maybe we need the amount of japanese ps3-players to kinda "attack" bethesda a bit more. The damage is done. To all of us. But in the end we want that bethesda fix the problem.
Lets say magical we can stop japanese to buy this game: okay, cool thing. But would it bethesda to do a fix? I dont think so. Infact they will sell lesser so they dont give any money on fixing stuff.
Like i said: its sounds a bit mean but do you get my point?

To be honest, they have plenty enough money to spend on "fixing stuff". Preventing more gamers from spending money on a product that does not function properly is one of the reasons we're all here, contributing, and getting the word out. If this became an international issue, Bethesda would be pressured into having to fix the issue, rather than allow it to slide under the rug, like what happened with the Fallout games.

Not a bad idea, but no japanese people will come here, instead they will stay on japanese forums. In general it's extremely rare that japanese gamers go out to international forums. Secondly, we don't allow threads that use other languages than english (and the few japanese members we do have here all use english).

All games are more expensive in Japan. Skyrim got a 18 rating in Europe too, by PEGI. Different rating organisations for different parts of the world.

EDIT: Re-opened.

You notice the huge price cut on the Amazon.jp link? Almost 50% on the PS3 version, think Amazon.jp got a heads up going into release.

We reached a mutual agreement.

I'll let you guys know if the JP gamers report any bugs, similar or different.

Probably some informed Japanese gamers that also read international forums and sites are aware of this problem and have spread the word in other japanese forums leading to many pre-order cancelations. Now price is cuted.
