Skyrim remake (Morrowind engine)

Post » Tue Dec 11, 2012 10:22 pm

I think Skyrim was an okay game, but it was lacking in a lot of aspects which I will think you'll all agree on. A remake would fix that.

So, why not remake the game in the Morrowind engine? With optional quest markers included of course, we do live in 2012 after all

Such a remake would also allow people with older engines to enjoy the beautiful world of Skyrim. There would be a lot of work of course, since they cannot just recreate Skyrim in the Morrowind engine either. They would have to handplace a lot of interesting loot, write tons of compelling dialogue (text boxes would look so empty otherwise) and fix the game to allow for cool things like levitation etc.

Yes it is a tremendous task indeed. Not to mention the extra pieces of armor, the spears, the crossbows, etc... they would have to make. Luckily some textures could be re-used from Morrowind. I am sure lots of players will not mind that.

So, all discussions about realism aside, would you like such a remake?

No. Because Morrowind's combat was laughable, dialogue flow (Chase he hyperlink guys!) irritating, Journal pretty useless, and graphical limitations troublesome.

But mostly because I'm not still living in 2002.

Morrowind isn't played to this day because of its poor animations and dated engine.

The Morrowind style could be brought over into the current style maybe we would not have to deal with respawn bugs and things not cleaning up properly and the 20mb game freezing bug. Anyways I would not mind if they updated Morrowind and released it I would buy an update in a heartbeat.

Huh? Engine and graphics are what I DON'T miss from Morrowind. If anything, I want Morrowind recreated on Skyrim's engine.

Journal pretty useless
Hey now, it was much more useful than journal in Skyrim (no, quest markers aren't a part of the journal).

This. It's played because it's still a really good game.

Skyrim's limitations (imagined or real) are NOT due to the engine. A silly idea indeed. Though I have a strong feeling the suggestion is not even remotely serious,.

You mean remake Morrowind with the Skyrim engine. It is being done as a Mod, right now.

Hopefully they pull it off and I can try it out.

Hopefully....hopefully...

Beth will actually allow this to be openly distributed. There are some rather "iffy" legalities that do come into play. However, one could argue that it will actually generate revenue for Beth as it in fact requires both Skyrim and Morrowind.

We can only...hope.

The Journal in Morrowind frequently annoyed the &*^$ out of me. :) It was just really badly designed. Picking out quests from the mess of superflous details was a pain in the backside. Dobn't get me wrong, Skyrim does go a bit far in simplifying things. I much prefered the Journal from Oblivion, layout and entry wise, of the three.

Forget that.

I'd love to see "Morrowind" (And "Skyrim" for that matter) re-done with the iD Software Engine used in "Rage".

That would be amazing.
