Skyrim Steam Patch : V

I have a concern about the PC and Steam. How do you install the patch on Steam? Will it update automatically when I've installed the game? WIll it recommend me installing the patch so I won't miss it? Will the patch be released the same time as the game itself? (00.00)

Steam will update the game for you as soon as the patch is released and you aren't playing.

i have no idea whats going on with this day one patch thing, or even if it exists, but if you're a steam noob; steam will auto update your games generally

Yes steam will update for you. They are usually very fast with patching. It is one reason why I bought Mount & Blade on Steam rather than Impulse.

When the game has been released you can right click in the games list and go under settings and set it to automatic updates - I think it is it by default.

Good thing for me I'll be able to play skyrim on my laptop while my desktop is updating : ) and vice versa.

This is true. Once it starts downloading the game will be unplayable until it is finished and installed. And there is no way to go back a patch, so it may be best to uncheck the "keep this game updated" box in the game's properties just in case they patch in more serious bugs like with the previous games :hehe:

I'm not sure that you can be logged in on the same account, simultaneously, on two computers. I think Steam prevents that (I've never tried it, but that's how I understand it works). You could play another Steam game you might have on the same account on the same computer while steam is updating in the background. However, truth be told, most gamesas patches, historically at least, haven't been very large (DLC might be large, but usually "patches" are relatively small and download in a few minutes on a broadband connection), so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If you put one pc into https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3160-AGCB-2555 you can play on that while the other one downloads - otherwise yes, logging into one pc will log you out of the other one if you are using the same account.

It's probably faster to just copy Skyrim from your laptop to your desktop. As long as you put it in the correct place in the Steam folder that should work.

And make steam backups after each patch, then you can restore a certain patch level game

You can't play when it's updating, but at least the day 1 patch is rumoured to be only 56 MB or something. I have no source for this, just something I heard someone say on a forum.
But if it's true, it won't take long at all to get, so you can start playing pretty soon.

Just use a syncing program, like Dropbox or similar, to automatically copy your save files from one PC to another, if the game doesn't automatically do this with Steam Cloud (actually, Skyrim being so new, I suspect they will have Steam Cloud integration - be pretty surprised if they don't).
