Skyrim PC Textures Look Like Crap

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 5:29 pm

What gives Bethesda? The trees, rocks, wood, NPCs etc. look like crap on ultra settings with AA and AF at any setting. What is your plan to resolve this quickly?

Doesn't look bad per ce, just doesn't look much better than Oblivion did. And considering the age difference, that's kinda sad.

Okay Sir Drake, then something is definitely screwed up on my end. Please tell me your settings and PC configuration. Here's what I am using:

i7920 @ 4.01GHz
12GB Ram
2x AMD 5870 in Crossfire, latest drivers and CAPs
RAID O Velociraptors, used for games

By the way, BF3 runs smooth as butter on Ultra settings, without AA and HBAO.

B3 on low looks better than Skyrim on ultra, too

also, frostbite 2 is a terrific engine totally made from the ground up to perform and blow away the visual department. skyrim is running on a 10 year old patched up engine.

No they don't.

BS; they look like [censored].

Adjust your expectations?

If the game isn't polished for a current PC configuration then I accept that. However, they need to fix this ASAP. If you're saying this is the way the game is always going to look, then both you and Bethesda can kiss my ass.

One thing that made the game to look bad was the default brightness , turn it down as much as you can , and check on the settings that everything is set to max , if you put ultra the game will put some stuff on medium dunno why , check again :)

Ahh i found how to link the whole album finally lol:

@TheMailman i dunno man for me they look very nice and even better in motion , if you think those screenies are bad i dunno mabe you need a replacement for yer eyes :P . I know they are not the best in the world but bad, not at all :)

i7 920
AMD 5970
and 8gb of ram
Nothing special , just doublecheck the config on the laucher and lower that uuuugly brightness :)

This is a bug several of us are having. The textures are displaying as low quality for all settings. I don't think there is a fix yet. Could be a problem with AMD cards?

I'll use the first pic you poasted as an example

http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/614968094967610193/89A7139339D13918D5CDE8E0AFD3BF6502D9C0B6/

character model is fine, however the armor looks rough on the edges; but the stone-wall textures look poorly done, carpet is clearly low res, desk in the left corner is clearly low low res

oh, and the lack of dynamic lighting makes the desk's legs look weird, but that's not a texture thing.

Ah ya yes that is true some stuff has low res textures i have no idea why , i do hate how shields and swords looks they seem like 120x120 textures lol. But is not thaaaaah bad :)
Also the dynamic lighting i miss that a lot too :(
The thing is i saw some screens before and i got really scared till i lowered the brightness , the textures must be fixed but is not all the game that looks "like crap" well this is what i think of course

You're on to something here. The textures in my game are definitely on low and I cannot change them. What we don't need is a bunch of sarcastic a s s wipes here telling us the game looks good when it definitely does not.

So I will ask again; What is Bethesda going to do about it in a timely manner? In my opinion, the already know about this and they need to post a fix ASAP. If the Steam Forums were up, they would be on fire right now. This is unacceptable and PC gamers don't/shouldn't take it.

What's up with the graphics wanking? if the game had bad story, lore etc then I'd understand. The graphics is more that barable. Besides there will be mods fixing issues or things that stick out.

Fine, I can accept that. However, you're not contributing to the solution. All you are doing is being one of those people claiming that my rig is messed up or I'm delusional. The fact of the matter remains, there are people unable to change the texture settings from low to anything else. If you're not going to comment on a fix or contribute to a fix then go back to playing.

My only complaint is with things like tables and Draugr coffins. They look straight out of Morrowind. I have a silly good PC with dual GTX580s running on Ultra with everything maxed plus the .ini fixes to shadows on trees, FOV distance, etc. etc. and the textures on tables and other items here and there are garbage. Not to mention all of the iron weapons look like crap with muddy textures. The steel ones look excellent, however.

Anyway, it does svck to run into crappy textures and it really pulls you out of the immersion but otherwise Skyrim is absolutely amazing.

I am having the same issues as the OP.

This is not a thread for bashing the general textures. They are fine. However, some of us are having a problem where the game is not displaying its full potential.

Here is what the opening looks like to me

http://i.imgur.com/FQCNR.jpg

I'm fairly certain it is supposed to look better than this.

I am running an Ati radeon HD 4870 1GB
4 gigs of RAM
Settings are at ultra

I don't really want to start playing until I get this issue sorted, as it kind of detracts from the experience. I do hope a solution pops up soon though, as I was looking forward to spending this weekend playing Skyrim.

I restarted steam, the game, checked all of the settings, updated my graphics drivers to 11.10 and restarted my computer and none of these helped.

Get back in your cage.

As I have stated, for some of us our graphics are locked on low and they cannot be changed. This needs to be fixed ASAP by Bethesda.

Thank you for adding to this discussion. It appears that this is an AMD/Bethesda issue and both companies need to kick it in the a s s to sort it out ASAP.
