Skyrim is the story of the Dragonborn - a Nord warrior

Post » Thu Jan 17, 2013 3:09 am

That is how I see it. No matter how I try, despite Dark Elves, Orcs and Imperials being my favourite races, I simply cannot stick with anything but a Nord warrior because of the heavy Nordic influence on everything in the game, and because of the role of Dragonborn.

To me, a Dragonborn does not skulk in the shadows like a coward, nor does he use cheap magic tricks like illusion to take out his enemies. He slays them with a sword, axe, hammer, mace, whatever. I cannot see it any other way.

I think a destruction mage would make a great Dragonborn also, but because you cannot be a mighty destruction mage in Skyrim and have to resort to using cheap tricks, that simply does not fit the role.

Of course, many of you will have different opinions, I am look forward to hearing them. I am not saying I am correct in what I just said, only that it is how it seems to me personally.

I see an Imperial to be the perfect role for the Dragonborn.

In several hundred hours, I've finished the MQ and been Dragonborn all of once.

I see that fitting too, except for that everything in the game is so Nordic. Weapons, armor, architecture. I have a hard time being anything but a Nord. I would love to play an Imperial paladin.

I know, but even the Dragoborn DLC is so themed on being a Dragonborn, it is difficult to avoid for me. I envy you.

Meh, I feel like the only reason some people are so overzealous about the Dragonborn being a male Nordic Warrior is because Bethesda made the mistake of depicting the Dragonborn in a trailer.

Well, you're in Skyrim. The land of the Nords is going to have some heavy...well, Nordic influence.

I don't like being anything but a Nord either. Certainly can't get in the "dragon born" feel with an elf.

That said, Dragonborns can be deceptive and cunning too. Look at Tiber Septim and Miraak for an extreme example.

Because destruction is weak, you mean? Well, conjuration may be a trick, but I don't think it's a bad trick to be able to pull a posse out of Oblivion rather than risk your own soldiers. Scruples can kill.

I have level scaling mods, though, so my Nord battlemage does plenty of damage all on her own.

The only time I've actually finished the MQ, it was with a Nord...mage. Yup, and an Necromancer, at that. A female one.

Now I'm going through with another mage (I'm partial to playing that type of class), a Breton conjurer, and another woman.

My next playthrough that I attempt the MQ will probably be with an Imperial male bard. He'll probably do one-handed, but he won't be the stereotypical warrior, either.

You're limited only by your imagination.

I feel like they did it on purpose. With the empire/stormcloak schism, they have to have an endgame storyline planned, and the High King of Skyrim can't be anything other than a Nord in the actual histories. This isn't a character who sails away into the sunset like the Nerevarine.
