Skyrim is turning into what TESO SHOULD be

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 3:11 am

yep, look at it,

you are now crossing the barriers into Morrowind with this DLC and if you were to do the same in other DLC's cross the barriers into Valenwood and all the other regions of Tamriel you would have the makings of a GREAT mmo, and if done properly would give the world what the world needs and wants.......a NEW world of warcraft but with MUCH MUCH better graphics and hopefully gameplay, I can think of many ways in which Skyrim already one of the greatest single player games on the market along with Oblivion could EASILY be turned into the greatest MMO of all time

The graphics in TES:O are the way they are because it simply isn't possible to run an MMO with better graphics.
I actually think that TES:O's graphics look quite nice, considering it's an MMO.

What did you think was going to happen if TES:O had the same graphics as Skyrim and a 15 or more players
were on the screen at the same time?

Yeah it is. TERA looks better, GW2 looks better, EVE looks better, Blade & Soul looks better, etc. You're forgetting that TES:O isn't on consoles. They can do a LOT more in terms of visuals and scale, but are using an abysmal (in terms of visual quality) engine that was only chosen because it has great MMO back-end support. Fun fact, same engine used on board the SS Tortanic before its catastrophic accident.

Agreed on graphic quality... While I'm not a big fan of MMOs at all, you do have to realize a few important things... not only can there be hundreds of players on screen at any given moment (see latest dev journal on beth blog), but each of those players can have a unique and changing look in a second. Now, imagine distributing the new textures of hundreds of players to the other hundreds of players... even 100x100=10,000 d/ls if they change armor, weapons, clothing. To do so in the hi-res of Skyrim could be crippling. It wouldn't matter what computer you had on any end, the bottleneck would be bandwidth. Without a super-fast, super-solid connection, it's doubtful you'd ever be able to get past the d/ls as people took helmets off, put them on, switched from Daedric sword to Dragonbone bow, etc. Granted, a lot of that could be local (if it's not already), but even still, 100 model redraw potential on a local PC? That would have to be some wicked PC. From what I have seen of TESO, it looks, IMO, great. I just wish I had the time, and knew 3-5 other people who had the same time, to play. Supposedly, playing solo IS an option (dev journal again), but I never seem to enjoy playing like that at all.

Yeah, forget about the cartoony art style with glued on beards and inhuman proportions. The engine isn't even optimized. It takes a beast PC to run SWTOR and that game looks god-awful. Same engine, same glued on facial hair, same 2004 seran wrap lighting, same poor animations and wonky character movement, and same "too big to fail" attitude. The more of TESO I see the more it looks like Tortanic 2.0. Ridiculous budget thrown after a bad engine with the publisher arrogance and heavy marketing / unjustified hype that comes from a "it's Star Wars it'll sell" brand name.

I doubt there will be other bordercrossing dlc for Skyrim. If there WERE more then it would only include the neighbor provinces like Hammerfell, Cyrodiil, High Rock, and of course Solstheim now. The hints are the 4 gates you find on Skyrims edges which literally direct a path to each of these provinces. Just saying

Wow, TES: O isn't even out yet and you monkeys are already complaining.
You're finally getting your Tamriel in full glorious detail.

Man...Just can't please anyone around here...Offer then a hamburger, they'll demand angus.
Give them crossbows, they'll demand more variations.
Give them werewolves, they'll want werebears.
Give them Solstheim, they'll want all of Morrowind.
Give them the inch, they'll want the mile.
Sigh...

If it have the same qualities as all the other TES games.
-Bug, Glitches, Gamebreaker and late or no fix for it.

Then it will fall apart after 1/2 year.

Highly unlikely. It's a thing. You'll have to accept that it exists. But it's set...years and years in the past of Tamriel, or so the articles are saying. I don't think this will impact future TES titles.
People will just have to come to terms with certain differences.

As long as TESO doesn't impact the Elder Scrolls games, cool. Just think of the signal to noise ration dropping as all the multiplayer kiddies head over to the 2nd Millennium............

Doesn't look that great anyway.. I would much rather a big Tamriel map.. With quality quests all through it.. But the amount of time Bethesda would spend on that.. Would be a lot..

Skyrim exists, therefore it is nothing like what TESO should be.

I thought that I wanted to clarify why Skyrim doesn't exsist..

wait... Am I the only one who supports TES:O? I mean, c'mon it has no effect on our style what-so-ever? Is this one of those "rebel against mainstream" situations? I'm no MMO elitist, never really got too involved into any of them (do to the lack of funds) but I DID enjoy them for what they were. The MMO isn't the 'next step' for the TES series, it's just a fork in the road, take it or not...

lol, I'm saying TES:O isn't the next step for the TES series... Fork in the road just means it's just another path you can go down in the TES franchise... Or not. Either way, there will be plenty of future TES games built in the classic style we've all grown to love.

Skyrim exists in the same way the complete works of Shakespeare exists. It however holds more in common with this post you're reading right now, 1s and 0s ordered in a manner that is readable to any device or man with the capacity to understand binary. Simply quoting the dictionary gives you no ground, in fact it topples you from whatever intellectual high ground you may have thought you attained with your post. You've gone and posted without true understanding or knowledge of what your actions would bring about, and now you face my pointless wall of text. These words are my evidence that tears apart your foolish post and reveals to the common reader the nature of your intellect. Your undoing has come about for daring to challenge Xeivous, the wordy forum lurker whose only respite from a unstable game is to browse the internet for the intellectually weak to prey upon, for misguided and illiterate fans of the game to correct and berate over lore, for moments like this. Moments to be taken with mighty keyboard and keen mind, moments to practice sweeping prose for future conquests. This is not conquest however, it is pest control. Fear me Joor.
