Skyrim valuable potions and alchemy

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 6:43 pm

So I want to know what ingredients are needed for the most valuable potions. I don't actually care what the potion does, just how much it's worth and how to make it. I'm in it for the monies. So does anyone have any tips?

Some mixtures I've found to be good and the price the potions fetch;

Mudcrab chitin, Purple mountain flower, Thistle branch: 242

Blue mountain flower, Blue butterfly wing: 366

Deathbell, Blue mountain flower, Salt pile: 209

If people could post in a similar fashion to mine that'd be great. Feel free to add the name of the potion if you like, though that doesn't matter.

Slow potions with Health Damage: Salt Pile + Deathbell and anything that has damage health (Nirnroot, Nightshade)

Invisiblilty + Cure disease Potions: Lunamoth wings + Vampire Dust + Mudcrab Chitin

Paralysis Potions: Canis Root + Briar Heart or Imp Stool

The value and effect of your potions goes up with your alchemy level. Also, use some "Fortify Alchemy" jewelry/gear to create more potent and expensive potions. ;)

I made one with wheat, giant's toe and I think blue butterfly wings. Over 600 gold and my skill is still in the mid/upper 20's

EDIT: It might have been blue mountain flower, not blue butterfly wings

My favorites:

1. Blue Butterfly Wing + Blue Mountain Flower + Butterfly Wing
2. Creep Cluster + Giant's Toe + Wheat

Almost all other expensive potions have some sort of rare ingredient, making it hard to mass produce them. Even Giant's Toe is not easily gathered, but it's just so good that I include it here. I recommend you buy anything with paralyze or invisibility (prioritize pairing Luna Moth Wing + Vampire Dust).

Even with just these potions, you will have a hard time selling them off unless you are also doing Alchemy training, which is the strategy I fully support. It has amazing synergy with Speech; it will level up quickly by doing this, which gives you access to selling anything to any vendor, which is supremely useful once you can't train any further.

The best one I've come across so far: Giant's toe, blue butterfly wing, blue mountain flower. Those are worth over 1000 gold a pop. Sad to hear you can't use the giant's toes.

My Nord's alchemy skill is somewhere around lv 35, but I'm constantly carrying around an inventory full of potions because the merchants run out of money too fast. Making money from alchemy isn't as much as a concern for me when I'm constantly going from town to town to find a merchant who can afford them. I'm just looking forward to the moment when my speech skill is high enough to help out with any merchant being able to buy any item and giving them all a boost to their money total.

^I'll try paying for training to help with this as suggested by Stilts.

Don't worry as it's not essential and rare. Look..

Giant Toe: Damage Stamina But use (same price, same effect): Bone Meal (found everywhere and on scheletons)
Blisterwort (mushroom very easy to find in caves)

Fortify Health " Wheat
Blue Mountain Flower (everywhere)

Fortify Carry Weight " Creep Cluster (easy to find on the rocks)
Scaly Pholiota (mushroom in caves)
or River Betty (if you like fishing)

Damage Stamina Regen. " Wheat
Juniper Berries (lots on trees in the Reach)

So, you see, there is no need to use Giant Toe when you can replace it by more common ingredients. Use 2 ingredients. Adding a third one does not change anything more. Among the most expensive potions are Damage (Health/Stamina/Magicka) Regeneration. Paralysis Poison, Invisibility, Slow Poison and potions having Fortify. Sorry I might forget some... I have reached max. level and I can hardly sell my potions. From 1.000 to 2.000 the potion it will take time.

If you use Blue Mountain Flowers + Blue Butterfly Wing you obtain Poison of Damage Magicka Regen.. Adding Butterfly Wing does not change anything. Just loosing your ingredients. Try... You can use a third ingredient just to reveal an unknown effect, which is good at the beginning and can quickly increase your alch. skill. But later only 2 are necessary.
