Skyrim wins Golden joystick award

Post » Sat Oct 27, 2012 4:03 am

I am slightly dubious about the award for "best moment" because Skyrim (as well as all the other TES games) isn't really a game of 'moments' is it? It's more the experience you're having.

I will admit that the view was quite a spectacular one, though.

How dawnguard was even considered for best dlc is just incredibly stupid. How can a dlc win anything if it isn't complete yet???

Or maybe they consider horse combat as dlc, if so the standards for these awards has really been lowered.

And game of the year?? Seriously the game was incredibly buggy and support has been lousy. I guess that whole thing where people get an A for effort but ultimately fail in their job has gone beyond the middle school level and infiltrated professional society. Next thing you'll see is that they no longer keep score in MLB games.

I smell payoff.

Darksouls had much better stability, support, mechanics, story, and they don't hold back on any platform.

You smell payoff then go on to extoll the virtues of Dark Souls? The story was non-existent and like it's predecessor tried to get by on 'being difficult' alone. The problem with that being that it wasn't exactly difficult anyway, the sloppy mechanics made it harder than what it actually was. :ermm:

Payoff? Great, are we going to go through this argument again?

I'm lost. Who gave out these awards, and why did skyrim get goty again when it came out last year?

It's the Golden Joystick awards - one of the oldest VG awards there is - it's been going since the 80's I think. It doesn't go on a calendar year.

Skyrim beat ... Mass effect 3 for best RPG of the year

I disagree with that.

Not to say Skyrim is bad, but ME3 beats it as an RPG.

I'm not the one that raised it, so perhaps direct the question towards DarkSun. :P

Lmao the "did Skyrim deserve GOTY" strikes again. Dudes, your personal opinion about the game should be the only thing you're concerned about, don't let the media poison your thoughts. On the other hand, that's your piece of reality. The global reality is what's happening at the level of the whole industry, and there Skyrim is pretty damn successful. There's nothing fundamentally "wrong" with any of these parallel realities, everybody should stand for what they believe in.

The fact Bethesda won is completely disgusting and disgraceful. I guess they don't consider performance all platforms, customer support, or customer service into the equation when bestowing an award. I wonder which version the judges were looking at, or did Bethesda "forget" to send out a PS3 copy again?

Id say customer support is good considering all the patches we get, and they're still working to get the ps3 version going. At least they haven't given up. PS3 is getting the 1.8 patch and that patch had hints that ps3 might be getting dlc. So be a little more patient. no other game out right now deserves these accolades more.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance. I am young and didn't know about that, lol. 19. That is pretty cool though.

i dont think so, the bioware ruined it by being bioware :P

However if you were not one of us here, who have put hundreds of hours into the game. and were just picking it up for the first time and put a few hours into it. . .would it not be an awsome game? all the NPC's, the open world, the freedom in gameplay, the simple controls, the sheer amount of stuff to do.

I think were all spoiled because its just what we come to expect from Bethesda, but if you had never played a TES game before i think the feeling would be much different.

Yes, that first sentence is the part i disgaree with :hehe: And they even managed to include multiplayer without screwing it up. Too badly :P

My first BGS game was Fallout 3, it was quite impressive for quite a while indeed. Then New Vegas was released :hehe:

After so long playing them and readin and writing these forums their faults have come quite apparent, especially in storytelling, but i doubt even if i was a newbie i would say Skyrim is better in story or character deveploment. Not to mention the actual gameplay mechanics

As awesome as climbing the throat of the world was, the ending to Portal 2 was better imo.

I would give Dark Souls the GOTY, but I can't argue with the Throat of the World climb. That was really well done.

Lol proves very little, as popular opinion often times has nothing to do with quality

This is very true.

Just because a couple of people think Skyrim is trash, does not stop it from being the best RPG released onto the market since five years ago. It's quality cannot be denied.

Apparently, the PS3 community was not asked to cast a vote.
Apparently not. :D

Solid, easy to access game with good enough combat and visual to appeal the audience. GotY material, yes. RPG of the year? That comes as a surprise.
