Skyrim with Nvidia 3D Vision

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 2:38 am

I have to give kudos to either Bethesda or Nvidia (or both?) for the support of 3D. Wow does the game look good in 3D! I'd rank the depth effect right up with the Witcher 2 (which was my previous benchmark to judge other games and 3D against).

The rendering of the sky has some issues, but I can live with them I think. So, if you're lucky enough to have a 3D monitor and Nvidia 3D Vision, I recommend you download the latest Nvidia drivers and give it a whirl. :hubbahubba:

Quick question, what 3D Monitor or TV are you using? I have been considering going 3D for a few months but I have a Nvidia card and I heard that Samsung, who I am a fan off, doesn't get along well with Nvidia cards. Would you recommend your monitor/what would you prefer to have in a different monitor? Thanks.

I'm using the http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-8846

Back when I purchased this monitor, it was one of best reviewed (if not THE best) 3D monitor available. And, I needed a new monitor anyway. So I bought it. And so far, I've been extremely happy with it, both WITH 3D games and all other things I use the computer for.

There might be better 3D monitors out now (I bought this one many, many months ago), so it may be worth-while to do some research on your end.

My computer is not the best out there, but I think it's far from the worst as well. But I'm pleasantly surprised that I can run Skyrim at 720P with EVERYTHING maxed out AND have the 3D too. I'm quite amazed, And the icing on the cake is that the 3D depth is (maybe) the best I've seen in a game. And I'm only NOW seeing some articles that Bethesda is not a fan of 3D. Well, if this is them NOT being a fan of it, punish me more! Please!

You know, I better also state that 3D is not for everyone. For a lot of different reasons.

I've had friends come over and do a quick run with some 3D games, both on my PC and the few games that support 3D on the consoles (I have a 3D television as well)... and while some really liked it and were Wowed, others were not and didn't get what the big deal was. Also, there are some people for whom 3D actually makes them sick or gives them eye-strain (luckily I'm not one of those people).

Then you have the fact that you have to wear the glasses. A lot of people HATE that part of it.

Also, if you don't really NEED a new monitor right now, I'm not so sure you'd want to go and drop money on another monitor just for the 3D. That's not to say it's bad, not at all (I'm in the "I luv 3D camp"), but it IS an investment. apart from the monitor, you'll have to buy the glasses as well (another $90). On the other hand, if you DO need a new monitor, I guess it would make sense to buy one that supports 3D. I mean, if you've got to buy one anyway...

But personally, now that I've actually played THROUGH many games in 3D... I only want MORE. It adds SO much depth and makes the experience so much more immersive for me. And in the end, that's what I really want (especially from a game in the Elder Scrolls series)... I want to be totally immersed in the game world, as much as possible.

So, my suggestion, find a friend or acquaintance with a 3D set-up and go play some games on their systems to see what you think. And don't do it at a kiosk at a store, it's not the same experience and the conditions will be far from ideal. You owe yourself that much before you drop any money.

This man speaks the truth. I'm running tri-sli GTX 580s on an Acer HN274H monitor, and the 3D is SUPERB. I get very little ghosting, with the worst being the tops of buildings or what not when I'm looking up on a sunny day. This was a WONDERFUL suprise, and certainly makes up for the subpar textures and graphics. I play all my games in 3D pretty much, and Skyrim is one of the best!

Oh, and I'm also up to 90% depth on all my games. Newbies should start low, at around 15-20%. Took me a month or so to adjust this high.
