Skyrim wont run off steam

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 7:18 am

Hi there.

I finally got my pre-ordered retail copy of the game just after midnight, installed it. Went smoothly.
Aright a update on 4% with my internet it gave me a speed of 5-15kbs which sent me straigth to bed instead.

I woke up now, to see a little bit of how the game works and runs before i go to work.
The problem is, I click run. steam asks for whatever permission, I click Yes and its downloaded microsoft VC redist package for first time use.
Then when the game menu of skyrim opens. It says Install, options, data files and you know.. nothing more. I've tried Reinstall so far. Without succsess.

Anyone else with the same problem?

Once you get passed that, don't be surprised if there are other problems too.

I won't be buying a game at launch again for pc. The game makers nowadays don't offer the same build quality for pc gamers because it isn't as profitable.

Just a simple question, may sound stupid, but have you tried re-booting your computer yet?
Sometimes that is all that is needed, especially after a windows system file has been installed/updated.

A clue, anybody? I've tried https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5357-FSQM-0382 which was the way i did in the first place.
Install from disc, logging into steam afterwards. Activating the key and the installation startet.

I've installed it 3 times now. 1 reinstall and 2 clean installs. No progress. WHAT THE .... is this bullocks? My internet connection is so junk too that downloading it isnt much of an option.. yet. I would have to drag my computer to a friend. Im trying to save both myself and them.

Anyone got any idea?

I have the same problem. Bought it off of Direct2drive last night, Downloaded it via my super slow Satellite connection, Hit to install, entered Steam Key, and now I get to download it all over again. What in the world was the purpose of downloading it the first time, If I have to turn around and do it again.? Don't get me wrong, I Don't mind having to do it again, except for the limitations on bandwidth, and now I'll have to wait a month to try again, due to my ISP. And no, I have no other Internet options, But I do have lots and lots of cows.

Yeah, I did install twice too, from the disc. After it was done, steam asked me to install it again... Eh? I feel so broken right now, i've waited a long time.

EDIT: Oh, and now, for the first time. Steam is busy instead. It's always something.

I had the same problem and have finally just fixed it.

I tried running the game from the TESV.exe file in C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim and got a message that I was missing an audio dll. A quick visit to Google and the problem was solved, the game runs now.

Would have been good if Steam would have told me why the game wasn't starting.
