Sleep schedules and modern life

Post » Tue Sep 03, 2013 5:47 pm

I've been wondering for some time now why I can't seem to keep a good sleep schedule where I go to sleep at 22:00 and wake up at 06:00, no matter how often I decide to try and change around my sleeping habits. However it has gradually dawned on me that the reason is actually other people. Most of the people I seem to know, be it offline or online, keep up at night beyond midnight. And trying to fall asleep at 22:00 with people walking around making noise for a couple more hours is not really ideal. And with most other people staying up late and some even waking up late the time for socializing has shifted from noon to early night, to early night to late night.

So do you hit the hay before or after midnight, and if you don't do you attribute this to your own lack of determination to lay down, or due to other people keeping you up at nights, be it physically or socially?

I apologize for any grammatical mistakes or poll mistakes, 04:25 GMT at the time of posting and I'm getting a little tired. Think I might just lay down now.

I'm up late, awake early compared to how late I go to bed. Fall asleep at 5am wake up at 10-11am. Some days I'll wake up later than that though to catch up on sleep.

My sleeping habits are erratic these days sometimes I stay up late then in the next fews day I go to bed early. It's been like that for the past year since I don't really have a consistent schedule. The only times my family wakes me up early is when I help my grandpa, work outside, or when dinner is done.

I try to get about 6 hours a night. I believe there were recent findings that suggest 5-7 hours as the ideal amount of sleep.

I'm a night owl. I'm a stay at home dad, so regular waking hours go towards the fam. Late night is pretty much the only time I can carve out time for myself to write music.

listed by night-of, not day woken up

23:30-7:30 Su-Th

22:45-6:45 F (have work saturday mornings and have to be in earlier than usual)

1:00-9:00 Sat(Su)

I didn't vote in your poll because I don't know what you consider "late" or "early" as those are highly subjective terms.
