SLI Mode?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 5:01 pm

I have two GTX 480 in SLI mode, core i7 875k overclockerd to 4.2ghz.
Latest nvidia drivers, and SLI works (50% on each gpu), but result is same as with one GPU.
Driver problems or game?.

I have same issue with SLI GTX 280 both GPUs are around 50% but fps still dips places like in cities (GPU usage is even lower). I think it's both the drivers and the game. I've seen no difference in performance SLI disabled.

Yeh i turned my crossfire off as if wasnt working properly im sure they will fix it like they did with fallout,it is poor that every time they releases a new game the problems that they have fixed in the previous games dont carry over its like they keep using some old code to start off with all the old bugs, like sli/crossfire,chickens spotting theft ETC.

Add my two 560s SLI to the list. Not unplayable but noticeable dips in FPS. Ultra 1080p

I have not installed the game yet but are you guys running the latest BETA driver? The one that has been tweaked for SLI use in SKYRIM? The latest WHQL driver has not had that tweak. I installed the 285.79 beta driver last night and while I have not installed SKYRIM yet, this driver seems to work fine with everything else.

Baer,
By monitoring, SLI works(GPU 1 50%,GPu 2 50%), but result as with one GPU, with latest 285.79,
In other games all ok, with SLI enabled, i recieve medium/big fps boost.

I just noticed the new beta drivers so I'm going to try these out with my GTX 460 SLI setup. I really haven't had any issues on Ultra settings until I load the Riverwood trader shop, but I think thats just my HDD chugging away.

Braeburn,
Post here, if these drivers will help..

I installed the 285.79 BETA drivers and well I can't say they really did much for me. I already had max settings and the game felt really good prior to the update (sorry i don't have fraps installed to get an avg FPS).

I did noticed that in my NVIDIA control panel the driver update turned off the setting for forceing SLI ( done by setting the "Maximize 3D performace" under SLI configuration in the SLI sub menu.), so when I started up Skyrim again after the update the affinity was only to 1 GPU and its usage was 99% (i use GPU monitor from addgadget.com). I went back to the control panel and forced SLI again and started skyrim again. This time the game balanced on both GPUs and was buttery smooth again.

I will note one very important detail. I have yet to randomly crash to desktop since the driver update. on the recent WHQL 285.62 drivers i would crash randomly, but sometimes multiple times at the same location (noticed this in the tutorial and in the Golden Claw quest). Since updating I haven't crashed once. I'll update on that later. I have no idea if the crashing is SLI related or driver related.

Anyways happy Skyrimming

I have now installed and I set up the game at 1920 X 1200 to create my character and play a while. At that setting it only runs on my center monitor. I then went into the ini file and changed the resolution and it shows and plays well across all three monitors at 5760 X 1200. I do have the expanded menu issue but there are some work arounds being developed at wide screen gaming.
Some of the issues being reported I am not seeing. Yes the interface is a crappy dumed down kiddie-console port obviously quickly done but it is workable. I have only played a few hours but no crashes, sound is excellent, FPS (speeds) so far are very good, all is smooth. I have my graphics settings maxed out except I backed off on AA. While it is clearly not state of the art it is actually quite good. We knew it was not going to be DX11 afterall.
I will bet that there will be good progress by the community on fixing much of what is annoying people. Is Bethesda impressive based on the attention to detail for their original PC base? No at all! But, the game itself looks really good and imersive and what is more important, it is playable on a high end PC even if they did not really take advantage of what our machines can do. It is kind of like driving 25 MPH in traffic in a Ferarri, you know you can do far more but you still do not want to be riding in that (insert you typical cheapie car name here) in the next lane.
