[RELz] Slower Skill Gain

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 4:27 am

I just figured it was working because I made a char using it who finished the first bleak falls quest with it and only got to level three where my other chars were at five. Still, with so many variables, it's hard to say.
Anything specific you did while installing the mod?

Xodarap, thanks for the mod. I'm unsue whether it is working in my game however; I followed your instructions by putting the .esp in the data folder. Then, you say that we should edit the plugins.txt file; I do not have such a file, however, nor do I have the appdata folder. However, in the Skyrim launcher I can already tick the box for your mod. Will it work like this?

There is an appdata folder. You just can't see it by default. In order to do so you should go to control panel and alter your folder options so it will show the occult folders. Then you will be able to see the path he mentions in the mod. Nevertheless it doesnt work i am afraid.

Just followed the install directions. I have no idea why this mod (or any other, for that matter) would require me to set plugins.txt to read only, but whatever. Since there's no way of telling how much it slows things down, it's also hard to tell if it's working at all!

From what I've gathered, you have to do that or the game/launcher will reset it.

Seems rather silly (and annoying) that the Steam launcher, which we have to use at least occasionally for updates, resets stuff that is pretty obvious players wouldn't want to have reset. SkyrimPrefs.ini is one thing. Players are obviously going to want to edit that (and presumably it's there specifically so that we *can* edit it), but using the Steam launcher will more often than not reset that file. Unfortunately, that .ini is bad to set to read only, so we have to deal with resetting our settings from time to time I guess.

Okay, that makes sense.

Speaking of SkyrimPrefs.ini, do I need to keep changing both of them (the one in Documents and the one in my game install folder) or is only one of them used?

Wonderful, tis just what I need. But one question, do I need to start a new game for effects to kick in?

I think this mod is for more levels, in lower levels apparently don't work but on higher levels works a bit more.

After trying it out on an old save game I didn't notice any difference what so ever. However after levelling up it was as if the mod then kicked in and I swear levelling is a lot slower now. This could be a placebo effect though.

There was a great Oblivion mod i skill use called levelslow that had several adjustments to the learning curve of skills. Apparently this Skyrim mod following the same principle, altering the learning curve. Perhaps the Modder could adjust this learning curve even further up (as he says from 1.9 to 2.3 in the formula, maybe is not enough) and we could test it for him.

Great mod! I always felt I leveled too quickly, and this mod, unlike the other one, doesn't effect maximum level.

Alright, brand new playthrough and wanted to share my experiences with it. I currently have 30 hours on this playthrough and I'm only Level 14. That's an improvement; I think last time I was in my 20s.

- Some skills that leveled up very quickly (Lockpicking, Pickpocketing, etc.) only seem to have a very slight decrease, hardly noticable.

- Some skills have a noticable decrease, like spells, One-Handed, Archery, etc.

- Some skills have a pretty large decrease, namely Sneak. Even with Thief Stone + Well Rested bonus it took me 2x longer to power-level.

Now I'm wondering if you know how to decrease the skill rate for certain skills? Pickpocketing is especially annoying to me, I mean I guess it's typical I'm at 50+ Pickpocketing with all the pickpocketing I do, but I'm only just at Bleak Falls Barrow while pickpocketing 25% of the people I meet. I want to pickpocket everyone in a city, but that would easily raise my Pickpocket skill to 100 and my level unnecessarily =/

I have installed and tested this mod but i doesn't seem to work. Tried several times with it in and without it on the same cjharacter. Tested with the lockpicking skill and with destruction skill with the same High Elf. Either with this mod or without it the lockpicking skill levels after the fourth lock you pick. With or without it the destruction skill levels about the same stage in the caverns bellow Helgen.

Or it doesn't work or i am doing something wrong...

I believe that this mod only alters the leveling curve, so as you level it will be much harder, but at level 1 or so will be basically the same.
