Just me or anyone wish you could melt down some of the weapons and armor you find for smithing components?

That would be cool, and use the skinning rack to dismantle fur/hide/leather armors too

I'd love to melt down iron pots and pans even!

I would like to be able to do what you can do in Fallout.

Say I have two Forsworn Swords, I can upgrade my other sword using the spare one.

PC users have already had the privilege to use a mod that allows you to do that exactly. Val's Melting mod I believe. Been using it now, and I must say it really brings a whole new perspective in "not lumbering around with useless armors"

I think that would be cool but you would level WAY to quickly. I leveled 1-100 smithing in a matter of hours. Would have been minutes if they let us do that. Especially because you find Iron $#!% all over the place. Every dungeon I could get ~20 skill ups and use no money at all.

I feel like they could implement something like in WoW (hate it but this could work) where after a certain level of smithing, leather and iron no longer gave skill ups. With how many Iron daggers I made the last one should have been ******* legendary.

TLDR: I like the idea, but it could not be implemented into the current system with no other changes made.

I know you guys are trying to be helpful but please stop suggesting mods for everything. The majority of players do not play on PC.

Got that a few days ago and it kicks ass. Now all that useless [censored] I'd haul out of dungeons to sell for a few measly gold can be turned into useful ingots. A no-brainer mod.

Is there a forum rule against this? There's no reason you couldn't have gotten the game for PC and there are PC users who are glad these mods are posted. I just downloaded them.

I would love to be able to repair my items when they get dulled down too. I'll wait for that mod though.

On a side note, somebody said there's more console players than PC players? Are those numbers true? If so these games will never be as good as they could be if they keep making them backwards compatiable for outdated equipment. <_<

There are many reasons who couldn't get this for PC. But that is besides the point. I really wish they had a subgroup here for the different systems. I guess the mod section will have to do for now.

I hate to say this, but WoW professions level up is much better

I spent around 3 hours for level 100 smithing (because I go out killing things) and BAM! I have (EPIC) steel plate armor set in level 7 and ebony set in level 20

It causes my Skyrim to lock up at the loading screen...I know it's Val's, because that's the only one I have to disable to play.

Speaking of smelting...I haven't seen any device called a "smelter" yet, and the forge won't turn Iron Ore into Iron Ingots...

There is a smeltrer behind the forge in Whiterun. It's a big dome looking furnace, not an open fire pit like the forge.

OK, thanks, I'm blind..though they could have had the smith make you manufacture one of the ingots needed for the tutorial quest...

There's also a smelter outside the Cidna Mine in Markarth.
