Smithing Tree Direction?

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 2:13 pm

Simple question. I want to have both dragon scale armor and daedric weapons for my sneak character. But did i make the wrong choice by going up the left side of the tree? I heard you couldn't go the left side (leather) and then once you hit dragon, go to daedric.

Oh, and when i unlocked scaled armors in the smithing tree they never appeared?

Depends how you look at these things. If you only want to take perks that be useful at the end-game (and perks that are prerequisites for those perks), then it's best to go up the heavy armour side of the Smithing tree - you'll end up with the best armour and weapons (whether you wear light armour or heavy armour).

But there are reasons to go up the light armour side. RP reasons; being more powerful in the early to mid-game; sacrificing a bit of weapon damage so you can use a perk elsewhere.

You can not get to Dragon Armors from the Light Armor side and then get Daedric. Scaled armors are under the Steel category when smithing.

To smith both Dragon and Daedric you need to go the right branch, the Heavy Armor one. The skilltree looks like a loop, but in reality it peaks at the Dragon and you can't go back down on the other side.

That's disappointing. I went up heavy armor first, but still my heart goes out to ya.

You cannot but you can find whatever daedric weapon you want if you search a lot for it in dungeons.

What level do they start dropping?

Yes, but without the perk you can improve only half way so it's not as good as glass improved fully.

Around lvl 48ish, but it'll be very rare.

Glass weapons are nearly as good though, so just use those. In fact, one particular glass sword hits harder than a daedric if you find it at a high enough level!

30's rarely. Frist piece of Daedric equipment I came across was a Daedric Helm in a chest on the Dragon Peak just south of Morthal. I was level 38
