Sneaking in Heavy Armor. Anyone done it? Successful?

Post » Mon Aug 20, 2012 7:40 am

Ok I'm building a sneaky archer/mage build. I want to be super sneaky. However I don't really care for the end game light armors... or many of the middle ones. Glass to shiny for a sneaky character, nightingale is cool but already enchanted, and I won't be investing a ton of perks in smithing so dragonbone isn't really an option. And I think elven looks completely ridiculous. My character is a dunmer vamp... not a golden bird. I wish we had light bonemold armor :( .

My character also has a background dealing with deadra and will master conjuration so deadric armor would be a perfect fit end game. However I still want him to be sneaky.

So without investing in 4 sneaking enchantments can a character be sneaky in deadric armor? Character is also a vamp so he will get the 25% sneak bonus for that.

Thoughts?

Before someone asks.... I will be creating deadric armor using the

I wear full Dragonbone Armor. Boots are enchanted with muffle and I use the Steed Stone for the armor weight.

So far I've been able to sit infront of a dragon on a mountain side without it noticing me (unless I move) in broad daylight.
So yea its possible.

Boots of Muffle are your friend. Sadly, the ones you can disenchant can be hard to find, so check all the merchants on a regular basis. They may get harder to find as your level increases so look early and look often. The nice thing is, the custom enchantment - once you learn it - always gives you a 100% Muffle effect regardless of your Enchanting skill.

One piece of gear custom-enchanted with the Muffle effect + high Sneak level (even without perks) = awesome, even in heavy armor.

Ive done it but, it pretty much ended up regreting it. Sneak and heavy armor just dont go well in my opinion. plus those sneaks perks can go into other skill trees that compliment heavy armor well, like destruction, one handed, and block.

like others said, you can essencially waste a stone buff and get steed if you really want to stick to stealthing in heavy armor, however, my advise: sneak in brotherhood/nightningale, switch to your heavy armor when you get spotted/engage in direct combat OR stick to cloth and use alteration perks and cast mage armor when initiating combat (dont cast it for or while stealthing as it makes both light and noise and enemies will spot you)

I love that armor. If I'm not using the dragon armor I'm wearing that.

Muffle seems to be hard to find in heavy armor. Usually its light armor boots or faction boots that have that effect.

A thieve actually told me told on to one of those right when i was headed to solitude for the thalmor embassy quest with my heavy armor build. Its like the gods were smiling at me that day.

Use the Steed Stone.

This, with muffle, and the perk that makes it weightless, and a good sneaking skill, makes it just as good as light armor.

Ok sounds good. I don't need to sneak up to someone. I just need to be able to sneak at a distance(archery), and with illusion and invisibility spells/potions I should be ok when I need to.

So muffle it is. I will be doing enchanting so that is doable. Steed I won't be doing. I'm going atronach. I can do the perk that makes heavy weightless though.

If you're using illusion, just cast "muffle" spell until you get the enchant....then sneak away in heavy armor :)

Edit: If you have Dawnguard the vamps have some really cool light armor. You can get them no matter which side u play

Ebony mail. A heavy armor that's muffled and harms all close hostile enemies.

If you're a master of sneak ancd the armor you wear, it doesn't effect you.
