[REQ] SnowRain collision fix

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 5:42 pm

I believe they reverse engineered morrowind to see the source code and edited the aspects of the source code that held that and other low-end problems. Which is also why it takes a long time and is hard to do for skyrim\oblivion, since they hold considerably more code then morrowind ever did.
nahhhhhhhh, it was just hrmchamd magic.

I deleted some posts, edited a couple.

If you are in the mod section and see a mod or mod request for something you personally don't have a problem with in the game, it certainly is not a problem to politely question why some people have an issue with something. But if you are just going to rag on something that has NO impact on you, other than it apparently irritates you because other people don't like the rain through roof, then you need to think about why exactly you felt moved to join into the discussion - because it's childish and trolling and we most certainly warn for it. And honestly, what a dumb-ass thing that would be to get warned over.

With that said, carry on folks.

I agree, I remember back in Morrowind it was so distracting to be wandering outside Vivic underneath a ceiling and look up and...its raining through the roof?

TES is the only game series I can remember that has this issue, at least where its so noticeable, just like Batman: Arkham Asylum/Arkham City are the only games that I know of that delete your save games.

I would be a big fan of a mod like this. Coming from games like the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series (modded) where I spent a lot of time huddled in shelter as perfectly rendered radioactive rainstorms raged across the land I was disappoint when I realized this problem was still in Oblivion/FO3 and now Skyrim. :(

...I gotta say, But I'm sorta with Pattycakes on this one.

Not to rain on the parade (HA, See what I did there?) but it seems like the relative effort-to-result ratio seems...utterly borked.

To each their own, but I'm scratching my head over this "issue."

It really doesn't bother you? I guess just not enough to put time into it huh. For me it's a big enough issue that I'd be willing to make it a project if it wasn't way above my modding skills. Idk why, but it just really throws off my RP. I noticed it back in 2004 with Morrowind and it's bugged me ever since.

Not at all. It doesn't even get my notice until threads like these point it out

Does anyone know how World of Warcraft manages rain collision? Because that game was designed, 7 years ago, to run on dated computers. And it STILL had rain collision. It had dynamic shadows too. So how Beth is struggling to make dynamic shadows and rain work well TODAY, when Blizzard had it working on computers considered basic 7 years ago is... depressing, to say the least.

If Blizzard has released any info or papers on how they made rain work though, they might prove enlightening.

Gothic 1 had rain collision and that game is ancient. What makes this even more depressing in Skyrim is that we were told rain wouldn't clip buildings anymore at some point along the way. It's one thing to have it happen and for the company to ignore the cries. It's quite another to pander to the media and lie to the consumer base.

They don't need to. It's a basic collision detection stuff - google up on "particle collision detection" to be swamped in articles about how to do it. On the CPU, on the GPU, cheap and easy, precise, between particles, between particles and other objects, whatever you want.

In http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/PhysXParticleSystemReference.html, it's as simple as setting bStaticCollision to true.

You'd think by now, Bethesda would have actually created a system where the snow settles and mounts up depending on the weather conditions... Be awesome if you could watch a snow drift building against the side of a building if you accelerate time.

Well, I suppose to each their own, right? I notice things like that straight away. And it's not that I'm looking for flaws to point my finger at. It's just when you're really immersed in the game and you are effectively roleplaying, it breaks said immersion.

I agree about one thing though, it's not that big an issue. But if the effort isn't as big as some think it is and it is in fact modable, I'd love to see this done. I mean, if someone is willing to do it and it can be done, then why not? I'm sure you'll use it too if it comes out, won't you?

Yup, many games have it, even very old ones. Contrary to what some people are saying here, I don't think it's so difficult to accomplish for a seasoned modder. I guess we're just going to have to hold our thumbs and hope someone takes it up ;)

Apologies if my memory and whiskey intake has butchered this thought, but I remember a post from SaidenStorm quite awhile ago (I think it was for Fallout 3, not sure) saying that he knew an easy way to accomplish this. Unfortunately it is still a ridiculously huge amount of work since you needed to manually edit everywhere in the game that wasn't supposed to rain/snow.
