I've played Morrowind since its release and Oblivion as well. Just so's you know I'm no newbie to the TES games
So, I was on my way to the first town after escaping the dragon at the start. Maybe I went a route the devs didn't intend for, but I was going in the best direction to the town as I could (with a cliff and river in the way). The first enemies I found were 2 casters, one with a necromancer's robe and the other with a robe I later found out helps Restoration and magicka regen. They were so insanely powerful for me that my high hopes for the entire game were starting to crumble then and there. I did manage to beat them after a few tries, but only by haphazardly separating them so I only had to deal with 1 at a time. It was still close, though.
My character's a pure caster and was wearing only cloth at the time. I know all about potions and am a seasoned caster outside Skyrim. Difficulty was medium. They weren't named.. just some random casters.
Was I not "supposed" to run into these guys, or can I expect one-sided fights on a regular basis? I know the other games had especially strong enemies at random places, but this was on the way to the first town upon my very first time being in the outside world.. it seemed unusual considering the other games at least recognized what you could handle right from the start.
Also.. I think, when casting a familiar one time, it was a rabbit that just hopped around. I guess my skill at Conjuration isn't good-enough to summon wolves reliably?

I appreciate any input.. though, without wanting to seem arrogant, I feel I should suggest you ignore the typical advice given to novices of these games; this was an occurrence experienced by someone who knows how to play.
Thank you very much!
