A "Solitude" Great Collapse?

Post » Fri Sep 07, 2012 8:49 am

I was just running around and I stopped to take a good look at Solitude. I'm surprised that city hasn't fallen into the sea, as the castle and a good portion of the city is just sitting on a narrow snippet of rock that goes across the river. Why did they think it was a good idea to build a city up there? One minor seismic event and half of the city is dead.

Well they don't have a college full of mages doing Talos knows what kind of magical experiments anywhere in the vicinity, so maybe they're not worried about it. :P

Why do people continue to live in New Orleans, especially after Katrina? Why do people live in LA, both knowing and expecting "The Big One" to come at any day? Why do people still live around active volcanos and in floodplains, worldwide?

I COULD point out that the narrow snippet of rock makes for a very good defensive position. I could also point out that said snippet of rock may not have originally been so precarious when the city was founded. Or I could point out that one of the Jarls of Solitude may have had the Mage's Guild magically reinforce the bridge. But in reality, humans are, as a species, bat**** insane. When you realize that, it'll explain a whole lot about human behavior...
