Solution to save game bloat?

Post » Sun Jul 29, 2012 11:36 pm

So today, after over 200 hours played with my first and only character, my save game files started to get really bloated, for no real apparent reason. I checked around forums to get an idea how to fix or "repair" the saves, and although I have one good sized save file as backup, when I start playing, it just keeps getting bigger. I have uninstalled / reinstalled all of gameplay changing mods, weather, etc. wich can cause bloat, but havent had any real luck.
So my question is - can I save my character of 200 hours, is there a solution already out or a WIP?

How big is the file? After 200 hours I would guess a save file would be between 10-13mb which would be safe. If it's any bigger than that it's almost certainly the fault of mods. To date, no one has come out with a save file cleaner. If you could purge any and all mods that could be at fault and then wait in an isolated cell for 30+ days you should see some bloat reduction. Maybe 2-3mb, anyway.

The clean file is around 16 mb, but all my save files, from 80. - 250. were ~16 mb and didnt go over it. Until today that is. Allthough i run many mods, most are armor, weapons, textures and shouldnt bloat.
I've tried to disable / uninstall the main mods, wich affect gameplay, but didnt get any difference. Didnt try the 30 day cell reset. Most are saying that the cell reset isnt working, because of some skyrim engine mechanic so im not sure about doing that.
Sad that i can only have a character for a limited time... :/
